New Features

Feature Description
Amazon EC2 Container Service Amazon EC2 Container Service is a highly scalable, high performance container management service that supports Docker containers and allows you to easily run distributed applications on a managed cluster of Amazon EC2 instances. For more information, check the Amazon EC2 Container Service Developer Guide.
AWS CloudHSM The AWS CloudHSM service helps you meet compliance requirements for data security by making dedicated Hardware Security Module (HSM) appliances available within the AWS cloud. The CloudHSM SDK lets you launch, terminate, modify, and describe CloudHSM instances programmatically. For more information, check the AWS CloudHSM Developer Guide.
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud ClassicLink is a feature that allows your EC2-Classic instances to interact with EC2-VPC instances using private IP based internal communication. EC2-Classic instances can become members of VPC Security Groups, allowing them to be managed just like other VPC instances. ClassicLink enables "unified" applications, where you can operate EC2-Classic instances and EC2-VPC instances communicating with each other through private IP. With ClassicLink, customers with EC2-Classic instance based deployments can start including VPC resources in their applications, and move functionality from the Classic to the VPC networking platform.
Amazon Relational Database Service

You can now encrypt your MySQL and PostgreSQL RDS instances and snapshots at rest by enabling the encryption option for your RDS DB instance. RDS encrypted instances use the industry standard AES-256 encryption algorithm to encrypt your data on the server that hosts your RDS instance. For more information, go to Encrypting RDS Resources.

Amazon CloudSearch The CloudSearch 2013-01-01 API now supports dynamic fields. Dynamic fields provide a way to index documents without knowing in advance exactly what fields they contain. A dynamic field's name defines a pattern that contains a wildcard (*) as the first, last, or only character. Any unrecognized document field that matches the pattern is configured with the dynamic field's indexing options.

Other Changes

Change Description

Get-AWSPublicIpAddressRange cmdlet

A new cmdlet, Get-AWSPublicIpAddressRange, has been added. This cmdlet downloads the authoritative IP address range data file and parses it to emit to the pipeline a series of one or more address record objects containing the IP address range (in CIDR format), the service identity and the region. For more information on public AWS IP address ranges see the documentation here and this post on the official AWS Blog.

Known Issues

Issue Description
Installation Requires Administrator Privileges The default install location is %PROGRAMFILES%\AWS Tools\PowerShell, which on most computers is "c:\program files". In order to install files to the default location, the MSI must be run by an Administrator.
