Amazon Aurora and Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL are now HIPAA-eligible services

Posted on: Nov 29, 2016

AWS has expanded its HIPAA compliance program to include Amazon Aurora and Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL. You can now use Amazon Aurora or RDS for PostgreSQL databases to build your HIPAA-compliant applications and store healthcare related information, including protected health information (PHI) under an executed Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with AWS.

AWS can be used to build HIPAA-compliant applications that cover the entire healthcare analytics pipeline. Information on HIPAA-eligible services on AWS can be found at our HIPAA compliance page.

If you already have an executed BAA with AWS, no action is necessary to begin using these services in the account(s) covered by your BAA. If you do not have an executed BAA with AWS or have any other questions about HIPAA-compliant applications on AWS, please contact us and we will put you in touch with a representative from our team.

Visit Amazon Aurora product page to learn more about Aurora and our health care page to learn more about building healthcare applications on AWS.
