AWS Schema Conversion Tool Exports from SQL Server to Amazon Redshift

Posted on: May 11, 2017

AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT) can now extract data from a Microsoft SQL Server data warehouse for direct import into Amazon Redshift. This follows the recently announced capability to convert SQL Server data warehouse schemas.

Used together, conversion and extraction allow you to do a full export from SQL Server data warehouses into Amazon Redshift, a data warehouse designed for the cloud from the ground up. This adds to the existing Oracle, Teradata, Greenplum, Netezza and Vertica data warehouses as import sources.

An enhanced version of the integrated uploader is also included. You can specify whether to extract the data, extract and upload data to Amazon S3, or extract, upload, and copy directly into Amazon Redshift as part of your data warehouse migration.

AWS Schema Conversion Tool makes it easy to migrate from commercial relational databases and data warehouses to open source based solutions in the cloud. For more information, please visit the AWS SCT product page and review the documentation. The latest version can be downloaded for Windows, Mac, Fedora, and Ubuntu.
