AWS Storage Gateway simplifies cache management for File Gateway
AWS Storage Gateway simplifies cache management for File Gateway by enabling you to create multiple file shares for a single Amazon S3 bucket and synchronize the gateway’s local cache with an Amazon S3 bucket based on frequency of directory access. These enhancements simplify the management of your gateway by providing flexibility when configuring new file shares and streamlining the cache refresh process.
With this launch, you can now limit the number of S3 buckets necessary to manage the file shares you create on your File Gateway. You can define multiple S3 prefixes for a S3 bucket and map a single S3 prefix to a single gateway file share. You can also define gateway file share names to be independent of the S3 bucket name to fit your on-premises file share naming convention.
In addition, when multiple gateways access data from a single S3 bucket, you can enable a new gateway cache refresh process on a gateway by simply setting a specific period of time since the last access of a directory. This capability ensures that frequently accessed directories are automatically refreshed to synchronize with the S3 bucket and infrequently accessed directories are refreshed only when needed. Multiple directories can be refreshed concurrently without the need to create and manage a cache refresh workflow.
Storage Gateway is a hybrid cloud storage service that provides on-premises applications access to virtually unlimited cloud storage using NFS, SMB, iSCSI, and iSCSI-VTL interfaces through file, tape, and volume gateways. You can use the service for backing up and archiving data to AWS, providing on-premises file shares backed by cloud storage, and providing on-premises applications low-latency access to in-cloud data.
These capabilities are available on new gateways starting today in every Region where AWS Storage Gateway is available. For existing gateways this new capability will be made available during the next scheduled software update. To learn more, visit the AWS Storage Gateway User Guide.
