Starting today, Amazon EC2 M6g, C6g, R6g, and T4g instances are available in EU (Paris, Milan) regions. Additionally, Amazon EC2 M6g instances are also available in Middle East (Bahrain) regions.
Amazon EC2 M6g, C6g, R6g, and T4g instances deliver up to 40% better price-performance over comparable x86-based instances for a broad spectrum of workloads, including application servers, micro-services, high-performance computing, CPU-based machine learning inference, electronic design automation, gaming, open-source databases, and in-memory caches. These instances are powered by the AWS Graviton2 processors that are custom designed by AWS using 64-bit Arm Neoverse cores. AWS Graviton2 processors deliver a major leap in performance and capabilities over first-generation AWS Graviton processors, with 7x performance, 4x the number of compute cores, 2x larger caches, and 5x faster memory. AWS Graviton2 processors feature always-on 256-bit DRAM encryption and 50% faster per core encryption performance compared to the first-generation AWS Graviton processors.
Graviton2-based instances are built on the AWS Nitro System, a collection of AWS-designed hardware and software innovations that enable the delivery of efficient, flexible, and secure cloud services with isolated multi-tenancy, private networking, and fast local storage. Amazon EC2 C6g, M6g, R6g instances provide up to 19 Gbps Elastic Block Store (EBS) bandwidth and up to 25 Gbps network bandwidth, while Amazon EC2 T4g instances provide up to 5 Gbps networking bandwidth, and 2,780 Mbps of Elastic Block Store (EBS) bandwidth.
These instances are supported by a broad ecosystem of operating systems and services from Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) as well as AWS. These include popular commercial Linux distributions (Amazon Linux 2, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, and Ubuntu), community Linux distributions (AlmaLinux, CentOS, Debian, Fedora, and Rocky Linux), FreeBSD/NetBSD, OpenJDK, Azul Platform Core, and the Amazon Corretto distribution of OpenJDK, container services (Amazon ECR, Amazon ECS, Amazon EKS, Docker, Kubernetes, and Rancher), management/observability/security tools (Amazon CloudWatch, AWS Systems Manager, Amazon Inspector, Aqua Security, Crowdstrike, Datadog, Dynatrace, Honeycomb.io, Grafana, Lacework, New Relic, One Identity, Qualys, Rapid7, Snyk, Splunk universal forwarder, Teleport, Tenable, Threat Stack, Trend Micro, and Wazuh), and developer/automation tools (AWS CloudFormation, AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK), AWS Code Suite, Buildkite, Chef, CircleCI, Cirrus CI, Drone.io, GitHub, GitLab, HashiCorp, Jenkins, Puppet, and TravisCI).
With this regional expansion, Amazon EC2 M6g, C6g, and R6g instances are now available across US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Northern California, Oregon), Europe (Ireland, Frankfurt, London, Stockholm, Paris, Milan), South America (Sao Paulo), AWS GovCloud (US) regions, Canada (Central), Asia Pacific (Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong), and China (Ningxia and Beijing) regions. Amazon EC2 M6g instances are also available in Middle East (Bahrain) regions. All instances are available in 8 sizes, with 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 48, and 64 vCPUs in addition to the bare metal option. The T4g instances are now available in the AWS US East (N. Virginia and Ohio), US West (Oregon, San Francisco), Canada (Central), South America (Sao Paulo), Asia Pacific (Mumbai, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney), Europe (Frankfurt, Ireland, London, Stockholm, Paris, Milan) regions and China (Ningxia and Beijing) regions. They are available in 7 sizes, providing up to 8 vCPUs. Amazon EC2 C6g, M6g, R6g and T4g instances are purchasable as part of Savings Plans, On-Demand, as Reserved instances, or as Spot instances.
Since launch, many customers and partners are realizing significant price performance benefits of AWS Graviton2 based instances with minimal effort. AWS services such as Amazon ElastiCache deliver up to 45% better price/performance and Amazon RDS (MariaDB, MySQL, and Postgres) deliver up to 52% better price/performance benefits through Graviton2-based instances. Amazon EMR provides up to 30% lower cost and up to 15% improved performance for Spark workloads on Graviton2-based instances. AWS Graviton2-based database instances are now generally available for Amazon Aurora, and provide up to 20% performance improvement and up to 35% price/performance improvement versus comparable x86 instances depending on database size. Additionally, customers using Amazon Elasticsearch Service can now use Graviton2 instances, and enjoy up to 38% improvement in indexing throughput, 50% reduction in indexing latency, and 30% improvement in query performance versus comparable x86-based instances.
To get started with AWS Graviton2-based Amazon EC2 M6g, C6g, R6g, and T4g instances, visit the AWS Management Console, AWS Command Line Interface (CLI), and AWS SDKs. Now, developers can follow a step-by-step plan to move their workloads to Graviton2-based instances with the Graviton Challenge. After taking the Graviton challenge, developers can also enter a contest for a chance to win prizes, including a trip to re:Invent 2021.
