Update: Elastic Load Balancing Code Change

Elastic Load Balancing is a service that automatically distributes incoming application traffic across multiple targets, such as Amazon EC2 instances, containers, IP addresses, and Lambda functions.  It helps customers achieve fault tolerance for any application by ensuring scalability, performance, and security.

Starting August 1, Elastic Load Balancing cost and usage information will start showing up differently in your Cost Management suite of products.  On your Bills page, it will now have its own line as “Elastic Load Balancing” instead of being grouped under “Elastic Compute Cloud.”  This change is taking place on August 1 for all commercial regions and will take affect on September 1 for non-commercial regions.

In the Cost & Usage Report line items for Elastic Load Balancing usage and data transfer will have a new value in the column lineitem/ProductCode – “AWSELB” instead of “Amazon EC2.”  For the Monthly Report, the Cost Allocation Report, Detailed Billing Report (DBR) and Detailed Billing Report with Resource Tags (DBR/RT), line items for Elastic Load Balancing usage and data transfer will have a new value in the column Product Name – “AWSELB” instead of “Amazon EC2.”  All other columns for these line items will remain the same.

Before

After

There will be no change to the way Elastic Load Balancing is displayed in Cost Explorer.  You do not need to make any updates to your Cost Explorer saved reports as a result of this change.  There will also be no change to the way Budgets for Elastic Load Balancing is set-up.  You do not need to make any changes to your existing budgets – any existing budgets you have for either Elastic Load Balancing or EC2 will continue to work for both services.

This change is intended to make it easier to understand the exact drivers of your overall EC2 cost – the prices for Elastic Load Balancing and EC2 are unaffected by this change.
