On the Paid plan, you can choose a monthly spend limit for your project. If you hit it, your resources pause until the next month, or you can raise the limit and resume. Notifications at 50%, 75%, and 90% thresholds and optional early cost controls keep you in the know.

Sign up and services
Open allThere are two ways to sign up for AWS. If you are a new user and want to use a login you already own, such as Google, GitHub, Apple, or Amazon, to sign in to AWS and create an AWS environment with sensible defaults in select AWS Regions, use Sign up for AWS (new). When you sign up for AWS using Sign up for AWS (new), AWS creates an AWS Builder ID account, which is a personal profile that represents you as an individual. If you want complete control over account configuration and where your content is stored, or if you have regulated workloads, use Sign up for AWS (advanced). The AWS Free Tier program allows new customers to explore AWS services at no cost for up to 6 months. New customers receive up to $200 in AWS credits—$100 upon sign-up and up to $100 more as you explore foundational AWS services. The AWS Free Tier program is available to all new customers—students, entrepreneurs, and small businesses are all welcome to sign up online. Learn more.
Most new customers will not be required to provide a payment method to get started. In some cases, we may ask for additional verification to protect your account. In addition, when you sign up for AWS, you might be ineligible for the free plan or Free Tier credits if you have an existing AWS account or have had one in the past. The Free plan and Free Tier credits are available only to new AWS customers. If you are ineligible for the Free Tier or Free plan, you'll need to provide payment information, and you'll be placed on the Paid plan.
As part of our commitment to keeping AWS accounts secure, we occasionally request additional information, like a payment method, during sign-up. This is a routine security measure. Our verification process holds USD $1 (or equivalent) for 3-5 days to verify your account and help prevent fraud; however, your card will not be charged, and you will not incur any costs as long as you remain on the Free plan.
After sign-up, copy one prompt into Cursor, Kiro, Claude Code, or any MCP-compatible coding agent. The prompt instructs your agent to download the AWS CLI, install Agent Toolkit for AWS, and connect to your AWS project.
A project contains a single AWS account where you create AWS resources. A project includes settings for sharing with other collaborators and has its own billing based on the resources in that account. You can manage your account and projects from AWS Settings. If you are using the Paid plan, you can configure a spend limit in AWS Settings for each project. Learn more about projects.
Yes. You can create multiple projects to separate workloads by budget and team. Add a hard spend limit to a project for cost control. Invite a teammate to join your project in one email.
If your project reaches its spend limit, AWS will pause your project and stop its resources until the next month, unless you increase the spend limit.
