New image component in Amazon QuickSight

We are excited to announce the addition of the new image component to QuickSight, allowing authors to upload images directly from your desktops, providing greater flexibility to incorporate static images into your QuickSight dashboards, analysis, reports, and stories. This is in addition to the current capability of adding images to text boxes, insights, and custom visual content, requiring a source URL.

Solution overview

With this new image component, you can upload images directly from your local desktop to QuickSight for a variety of use cases, such as adding company logos and branding, including background images with free-form layout, and creating captivating story covers. It also supports tooltip and alt text, providing additional context and accessibility for readers. Furthermore, it offers navigation and URL actions, enabling you to make your images interactive, such as triggering specific dashboard actions when the image is clicked. With the new image component, QuickSight authors can now craft more engaging, brand-aligned, and interactive visual narratives, taking their dashboarding and data storytelling to new heights.

Upload images to a QuickSight analysis

Complete the following steps to upload images from your computer to QuickSight analysis:

1. Choose Add Image in the top pane of your QuickSight analysis and choose an image from your local folder.
2. Adjust the size to align with other visuals like charts and tables.

The new image component comes with several visual properties to make it straightforward to scale and position the image:

• Fit to width – This option fits the image to the width of the visual.
• Fit to height – This option fits the image to the height of the visual.
• Scale to visual – This option scales the image to the width and height of the visual. This option might contort the image.
• Do not scale – This option keeps the image at its original scale and doesn’t fit the image to the dimensions of the visual.

4. Enable tooltip and add text for additional context.
5. Add alt text for accessibility.
6. Add navigation or URL actions for additional interactivity.
7. Use the Replace image option to replace with a new image.

Limitations

As you explore the new image upload feature, note the following current limitations:

• You can upload a maximum of 10 images per sheet
• These images don’t count towards the 50-visual limit
• The file size limit is 1 MB
• Supported file formats include BMP, JPG/JPEG, PNG, and TIFF
