Protect sensitive data with dynamic data masking for Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL

Today, we are launching dynamic data masking feature for Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL-Compatible Edition. In this post we show how dynamic data masking can help you meet data privacy requirements. We discuss how this feature is implemented and demonstrate how it works with PostgreSQL role hierarchy.

Implement a rollback strategy for Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL upgrades using Amazon RDS Blue/Green deployments

Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL-Compatible Edition supports managed blue/green deployments to help reduce downtime and minimize risk during updates. Even with thorough planning and testing in non-production environments, unexpected issues can emerge after a version upgrade. In these cases, having a rollback plan is essential to quickly restore service stability. While the managed Blue/Green deployment feature doesn’t currently include built-in rollback functionality, you can implement alternative solutions for version management. In this post, we show how you can manually set up a rollback cluster using self-managed logical replication to maintain synchronization with the newer version after an Amazon RDS Blue/Green deployment switchover.

New – Fully managed Blue/Green Deployment in Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL and Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL

For workloads that require simpler orchestration of creating a staging environment for extensive testing and achieve maximum availability during a major version upgrade, we’re pleased to announce the general availability of Amazon RDS blue/green deployments for Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL-Compatible Edition and Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL for versions 11.21 and higher, 12.16 and higher, 13.12 and higher, 14.9 and higher, and 15.4 and higher in all applicable AWS Regions and AWS GovCloud (US) Regions. In this post, we walk through an example of creating a blue/green deployment. We also show how to perform major version upgrades using blue/green deployment with minimal downtime and describe the switchover process. Finally, we discuss the best practices for using blue/green deployment.
