Attempts to increase graduation numbers in software engineering programs are only part of the answer. All students need to improve their digital literacy and collaboration skills.

The AWS Educate Cloud Ambassador Program provides leading educators recognition, professional development, and exclusive benefits for helping students learn about cloud computing and prepare for the modern workforce.

At the AWS Sydney Summit, Swinburne University of Technology announced the launch of the Data for Social Good Cloud Innovation Centre (CIC) powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS). The new centre is the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and will leverage the expertise of Swinburne’s research institutes, which specialise in health, social innovation, and smart cities.

For the second year, AWS hosted our AWS Public Sector Summit in Brussels, Belgium, on Tuesday, April 9. This year, we welcomed over 700 attendees from across the European Union. The Summit focused on key public sector themes across the region including training and workforce development, migration and transformation, data privacy and security, and machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Arizona State University (ASU) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have officially opened the ASU Smart City Cloud Innovation Center (CIC) Powered by AWS, an initiative that focuses on building smarter communities in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area using the AWS Cloud to solve pressing community and regional challenges.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has been selected as a founding member of Chile’s Data Observatory project, an innovative public-private alliance with the Chilean Government. The alliance is being created to consolidate, analyze real-time, and archive astronomy data streams from all wavelengths across all Chilean observatories in the Atacama Desert, where 70 percent of the world’s telescopes are located due to the ideal observation conditions that the geographical area provides. AWS will host the images and data that are recorded and downloaded from Chile’s world-renowned telescopes, which are continuously studying space.

Radiant Earth Foundation is a nonprofit focused on delivering open geospatial data and analytics to the global development community (GDC) in support of their missions to address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other key targets. Radiant Earth supports GDC by aggregating open geospatial data and providing access through its cloud-based platform, generating open Earth Observation (EO) machine learning tools and training data libraries, and creating new metadata standards through its MLHub Earth initiative. Additionally, the organization offers training resources to support capacity development and expertise in the geospatial and remote sensing sciences.

As the spring 2019 semester began, 60 plus junior and senior computer science students at the University of California, Berkeley started their “Computer Science 152” course. An elective within the Computer Science (CS) division, the class consists of a series of lab assignments aimed to teach computer architecture and major concepts used in modern microprocessors. In CS152, students study real RISC-V microprocessor designs implemented in the Chisel hardware description language, and simulate them with FireSim, which runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS) F1 instances in the cloud.

DevOps isn’t just a buzz word. Ok, it’s a little buzzwordy, but the movement is real. The purpose of DevOps is to provide a framework through which organizations can approach application development and operational excellence. It’s part of a strategy to help align culture, people, and processes for success with digital transformation.
