Open Solution Helps Companies Get Set Up on AWS to Fully Utilize Their Data
For most companies, the availability of time, money, and talent are main drivers of success. With all three being notoriously scarce, the ability to increase access to even one or two of those factors can have real effects on a business. Open Solution, a Beijing-based cloud services startup, boasts the ability to save on all three for companies that sign on as customers.
Founded in 2017, the startup is on a mission to help both new and established companies integrate with the cloud to make better sense of their data. Historically, a team might look to hire a group of infrastructure engineers to do this, which can be both costly and difficult to find in today’s talent market. Instead, Open Solution’s Co-founder and CEO Li Liang argues that his startup can be brought on to setup and manage the infrastructure, leaving companies more time to focus on their customers.
The idea for Open Solution was birthed out of a Liang’s previous startup, a fintech play that he founded shortly after completing a computer science degree in France. As CTO, a large part of his job was getting the new finance-focused company up and running from a technological perspective. Liang says this ended up meaning dumping a ton of time and money into hardware and IT. In that process, he figured there had to be a more efficient way to design the infrastructure, which led him to cloud computing, AWS, and founding Open Solution.
The startup has since specialized in the type of cloud infrastructure support they offer, focusing mainly on IoT and “smart building” applications. Per Liang, the proliferation and drop in cost of sensors has created a great opportunity for data to be collected, analyzed, and utilized to optimize. He points to one of their customers in China that operates a factory with an array of machines and corresponding sensors.
“For this company, we’re able to import the data from the sensors via AWS IoT Greengrass and upload it into their cloud to enable the owner to easily run analysis. The sensors and machinery are also able to run AWS Lambda functions to act upon the data they’re collecting once it’s run through established machine learning models.”
As of now, the vast majority of Open Solution’s customers are in the company’s home country of China. Although there is no shortage of manufacturing there, the startup and its team of 20 have their eyes set on geographic expansion, with a special focus on the US. These ambitions led Open Solution to more deeply integrate with the AWS ecosystem, recently coming onboard as an official partner in theAWS APN network. As Liang puts it, “We chose to mainly leverage AWS for our customers based on the service offerings, but we also see its global reach as a huge advantage that will help us scale across borders.”
