AWS HealthOmics Documentation

AWS HealthOmics is designed to help support clinical diagnostic testing, drug discovery, and agricultural research by managing the infrastructure behind bioinformatic workflows. HealthOmics supports multiple workflow languages and is designed to help scale bioinformatics infrastructure to support data from tests.

Workflow Orchestration

HealthOmics is designed to provision and orchestrate infrastructure components and coordinate the execution of bioinformatics workflows across distributed computing resources, managing job dependencies, data movement, and resource allocation. The orchestration layer is designed to handle failure recovery, retry logic, and resource optimization to help support workflow completion.

Multiple Workflow Language Support

HealthOmics is designed to provide native support for domain-specific workflow languages, enabling use of existing workflow definitions. The workflow engine architecture is designed to allow integration of custom workflows while maintaining execution and monitoring capabilities.

Domain-Specific API Architecture

HealthOmics offers APIs designed for bioinformatics and life sciences workloads. These APIs enable programmatic access to workflow submission, monitoring, and data management functions while supporting interactive processing modes. The architecture is designed to support integration with existing laboratory information management systems and processing pipelines through standardized interfaces.

Sequence Store

HealthOmics includes a Sequence Store repository that efficiently stores, indexes, and retrieves genomic sequence data. It compresses and optimizes storage for genomic file formats. It also provides version control, metadata management through customizable tags, and supports data sharing with access controls.

Scalability

HealthOmics is designed to scale to process many samples daily, adjusting resources based on workload demands. The infrastructure allocates compute, memory, and storage resources to support efficient resource utilization.

Compliance and Audit Trails

HealthOmics maintains audit logs that track operations performed on data. It provides provenance tracking through the workflow cycle, documenting transformations and processing steps.
