Amazon QuickSight Documentation

Enterprise workloads

Amazon QuickSight has a serverless architecture that is designed to scale to tens of thousands of users without the need to setup, configure, or mange your own servers. QuickSight is also built with security, governance, and global collaboration features for your enterprise workloads.

Serverless auto scaling

QuickSight is serverless and is designed to scale to tens of thousands of users without your needing to manage infrastructure or plan for capacity. QuickSight is designed to give users and analysts self-service business intelligence (BI), so they can answer their own questions, collaborate, and share insights. With QuickSight, your users can connect to data sources, create/edit datasets, create visual analyses, invite co-workers to collaborate on analyses, and publish dashboards and reports.

Data source support

Quicksight is designed to allow you to directly connect to and import data from a wide variety of cloud and on-premses data sources. These include SaaS applications; 3rd party databases; native AWS services; and private VPC subnets. You can also upload a variety of file types.

SPICE (super-fast, parallel, in-memory, calculation engine)

SPICE, QuickSight's in-memory calculation engine is designed to enable improved performance at scale. SPICE is designed to automatically replicate data for high availability allowing thousands of users to simultaneously perform fast, interactive analysis while shielding your underlying data infrastructure, saving you time and resources.

Support for Billion-row datasets

SPICE supports datasets up to a billion rows, so you can access and analyze very large datasets. Billion-row dataset support is available to all Amazon QuickSight Enterprise Edition customers.

Global collaboration and multi tenancy

The QuickSight application is localized in 10 major languages including: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. QuickSight is also available across multiple AWS regions including: US East (Ohio), US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), and Europe (Dublin).

Security and compliance

Quicksight has built-in security features that are designed to allow you to distribute dashboards and insights securely to tens of thousands of users. QuickSight allows you to manage your users and content through a set of security features including role-based access controls (RBACs), Active Directory integration, AWS CloudTrail auditing, single sign-on (such as AWS IAM and third parties), VPC subnets, and data backup.

Mobile app support

QuickSight Mobile for iOS and Android is designed to help you securely get insights from your data from anywhere. You can favorite, browse, and interact with all of your dashboards in a mobile-optimized experience. You can explore your data by drilling down and filtering, use forecasting, get email alerts when changes happen in your data, and share those insights with colleagues.

Pay-per-use pricing

QuickSight offers a pay-per-session model for dashboard readers (users who consume dashboards others have created). This pricing model is designed to allow your users to access dashboards and email reports on a pay-per-session basis.

API capabilities

QuickSight offers API capabilities that make it easier to create and manage users, datasets, and assets. QuickSight APIs provide programmatic access to BI assets such as dashboards, analysis, and reports. This API access to the underlying data models is designed to allow these BI assets to be treated as software source code and managed in your DevOps pipelines.

Embedded analytics for applications

Amazon QuickSight lets you embed interactive dashboards and visualizations into your applications. Blend analytics into your application with QuickSight Embedded Analytics themes, which help you personalize the look and feel (for example, colors and fonts) of your reports and dashboards. You can integrate dashboards and visualizations into your application’s user experience by setting defaults and handling errors to match your application's user experience.

One-step embedding

QuickSight Enterprise Edition supports one-step embedding, a feature that is designed to allow you to embed dashboards in applications, wikis, and portals without needing to call embedding APIs. Authorized end users can access these dashboards without any server deployments or infrastructure licensing needed.

Custom-branded email reports

QuickSight Enterprise Edition supports the ability to send custom-branded email reports. You can customize the email sender domain for email reports sent sent from QuickSight, along with the logo, header color, and footer text of the email. If you have your dashboard embedded in your application, you can customize the URL to open the dashboard from the email to the URL of your application.

Enable data insights

Amazon QuickSight is designed to help your users gain insights through as-needed analysis and machine learning (ML) capabilities such as anomaly detection, forecasting, and natural language querying (NLQ). In addition, users can author, publish, and share their own dashboards and reports to get specific answers to their customized questions.

Serverless

In addition to QuickSight's serverless architecture, QuickSight's APIs are designed to help you manage your analytics workflows, such as setting up multitenant architecture for isolating data between multiple end- users, moving dashboards across accounts, automating deployments, and managing access for users with single sign-on (SSO).

Amazon QuickSight Embedded

Add analytics into any application with customized, interactive visuals and dashboards. Scale to hundreds of thousands of users without the need to manage infrastructure.

Share insights with internal and external users, embed into applications, wikis, websites, and more with no extra coding or licensing, and provide insights in existing business intelligence (BI) and data investments.

Add interactive dashboards, natural language querying (NLQ), or BI authoring to applications without specialized resources or investment, match embedded content with each application’s look and feel using built-in themes and a powerful JavaScript SDK, and scale to hundreds of thousands of users without managing servers.

Provide contextual analytics to users, embed analytics, and offer users a seamless, data-driven experience integrated into the application.

Amazon QuickSight Q

QuickSight Q is designed to allow anyone to ask questions in natural language and receive answers with visualizations that help them gain insights from the data.

Use without BI expertise

QuickSight Q provides suggestions for phrases and business terms and performs spell checking.

Understands intent

QuickSight Q uses machine learning (ML) to understand the meaning and relationships among business data, and provide answers with visualizations.

Designed for business

QuickSight Q can forecast and ask "why", allowing readers to gain insights into past and future trends. QuickSight Q is pre-trained on data to help it understand business language and terms.

Provides answers

QuickSight Q is designed to improve over time based on reader questions. Authors can see the most popular questions from readers.

Reduces time to insight

QuickSight Q is designed to help you get insights into your data more quickly as BI teams don’t have to update data and dashboards for every new question.

Automates data preparation

QuickSight Q is designed to automatically infer and add semantic information to datasets, reducing the time and effort needed to start asking questions about data in natural language. QuickSight Q is designed to use pretrained ML models and learnings from your existing assets (dashboards and reports) to infer and add semantic information to datasets.

Amazon QuickSight Paginated Reports

Create, schedule, and share reports and data exports from a single, managed, cloud-based business intelligence (BI) solution. Your users can create and share customized and paginated documents with the QuickSight interface.

Report business insights
