Matthew Rich

As a cloud systems engineering manager, Matthew works to ensure everyone at Northwestern University, including students, faculty, and staff, is able to use public cloud services securely, easily, and cost effectively. His team employs not only automation and documentation in this work, but also deep engagement with the cloud community within and beyond Northwestern to foster continuous learning and improvement.

Prior to his current role, Matthew served as a senior cloud services specialist in the Research Computing Services team at Northwestern, where he helped researchers employ public cloud services to find answers to their biggest questions. In 2019 Matthew received a Project Excellence Award from the Northwestern University Office of Information Technology for his work on the Quest High Performance Computing Cluster Scheduler Transition project, migrating the scheduler software used in Northwestern’s on-campus HPC cluster to Slurm. Before joining Research Computing Services, Matthew was lead developer at Northwestern’s School of Education and Social Policy.

Matthew earned a Bachelor of Science degree in International Relations and Affairs from Georgetown University and a Master of Science in Finance from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Matthew lives in Evanston, Illinois with his family and enjoys playing soccer, reading, and seeing live music with friends.
