AWS Cloud Financial Management

Time to say goodbye to the Simple Monthly Calculator

Fanita Rodrigues, Technical Product Manager, contributed to this blog.

To ensure you have the most up-to-date pricing estimate experience in one place, the Simple Monthly Calculator (SMC) will be retired beginning March 31, 2023 at 11:59PM Pacific Time; we recommend you use the AWS Pricing Calculator to explore pricing of AWS services and estimate costs for your architecture needs.

Starting April 1, 2023, you will no longer be able to create or save new estimates in SMC. To help migrate your existing SMC estimates to the AWS Pricing Calculator you can use this conversion feature, which will be available until December 31, 2023, 11:59 PM PST. No action is necessary if you’ve never used SMC or don’t require access to your previously saved SMC estimates.

Why should you use AWS Pricing Calculator?

Many of you may already be using or are familiar with the AWS Pricing Calculator. Since the launch of SMC in 2007, we received and incorporated your feedback to develop an improved cost estimate tool. The resultant AWS Pricing Calculator has a simplified web interface, which now supports cost estimates of more than 150 AWS services. It also enables cost estimates at scale, like bulk import for EC2 instances.  AWS Pricing Calculator is accessible to all users, prospects, or AWS customers, without an AWS account. It provides cost estimates for your workloads, using the public AWS prices. By retiring SMC and focusing on AWS Pricing Calculator, we are ensuring that you have the most updated and comprehensive pricing estimates in one place.

How can you migrate to AWS Pricing Calculator?

For those of you who have used SMC in the past and saved SMC estimates, please migrate them to the AWS Pricing Calculator before December 31, 2023 11:59 PM Pacific Time by using the conversion feature. It will help convert your SMC estimates to AWS Pricing Calculator-compatible estimates. Once converted, a new AWS Pricing Calculator estimate URL will be provided.

  • Starting April 1, 2023: You can’t create new estimates in Simple Monthly Calculator, but you can convert previously saved estimates to a new Pricing Calculator URL. You will be automatically redirected to the AWS Pricing Calculator to view your converted estimates.
  • Now – December 31, 2023, 11:59PM Pacific Time: You can convert your previously saved SMC estimates to a new Pricing Calculator URL.
  • December 31, 2023: The conversion feature will no longer be available.
