State of Missouri, Department of Labor & Industrial Relations
Bio
Champion since 2024
The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DOLIR) oversees the state’s unemployment system called UInteract. UInteract was previously hosted on-premise in the State’s data center. In an effort to modernize and transform UInteract, DOLIR partnered with AWS to migrate the system to the AWS cloud. This migration provided improved scalability, security, and resilience for UInteract. By leveraging services like auto-scaling groups and load balancing, UInteract can now easily handle spikes in usage while maintaining performance. The AWS global infrastructure also helps keep UInteract operational even in the event of localized outages.
The modernization of UInteract directly benefits unemployed Missouri residents who rely on the system for filing and managing their unemployment claims. The upgraded experience is more user-friendly, reliable, and accessible for these residents. Additionally, the DOLIR employees who manage and maintain UInteract have benefited from the transformation. The AWS infrastructure reduces the burden of on-premise system administration and upkeep. Employees can now focus more time on improving core services and adding new capabilities to better serve constituents. Migrating UInteract to AWS has provided crucial modernization of a critical unemployment system relied upon by thousands of Missouri residents. Both system users and administrators have benefited, as the changes have kept UInteract accessible, resilient, secure and forward-looking.
DOLIR significantly increased page loading speed through upgrades to their web application, resulting in less downtime and an improved constituent experience. By enabling future multilingual equity enhancements beginning with Spanish translation, DOLIR has significantly transformed how they reach diverse constituent populations. These technology innovations have equipped DOLIR with new capabilities to better serve their constituents.
What is the AWS Champions Program?
The AWS Champions program recognizes, celebrates, and supports organizations and individuals driving digital transformation with cloud computing. AWS recognizes AWS Education Champions, AWS State and Local Government Champions, AWS EdTech Champions, and AWS GovTech Champions.
The purpose of the program is to acknowledge customers that have used AWS products and services in innovative ways to improve the service to their communities, constituents, customers, stakeholders, staff, students, faculty or researchers. Champions’ experiences and success stories serve as inspiration for other education, state and local government, EdTech and GovTech customers to reference as they think about their own digital transformation journey.
