Announcing New CloudWatch Metrics for Capacity Monitoring on AWS Outposts

Posted on: Sep 22, 2020

Today we are announcing the availability of two new CloudWatch metrics for capacity monitoring on AWS Outposts. The new metrics are UsedInstanceType_Count and AvailableInstanceType_Count. These new metrics provide insight into the number of instance types that are currently in use and available on Outposts. These metrics are available along with the other CloudWatch capacity monitoring metrics for Outposts on the AWS management console and CLI.

The new metrics include:
• UsedInstanceType_Count - The number of instance types that are currently in use.
• AvailableInstanceType_Count - The number of instances types that are available.

To use these metrics, First, you open the CloudWatch console, select Metrics from the navigation pane, and select the metric namespace as “Outposts”. Next, you select the metric dimension as “By Outpost and Instance Type” and then choose the metrics which will be grouped by Instance Types.

These metrics are now available to all Outposts customers at no additional cost and can be viewed via the CloudWatch console or CLI.
