JFrog Reduces Carbon Footprint by 60% and Cuts Costs 20% Using Amazon EKS and Graviton
Learn how JFrog migrated to Amazon EKS, enabling seamless global deployment & infrastructure scalability across regions.
JFrog leverages Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) a fully managed Kubernetes service that enables you to run Kubernetes seamlessly in both AWS Cloud and on-premises data centers, to power their global software delivery platform Artifactory, serving thousands of enterprise customers worldwide through 60+ clusters across 10+ regions. By migrating to Amazon EKS and later adopting AWS Graviton processors, that are custom-built by AWS to deliver the best price performance for cloud workloads. JFrog transformed their infrastructure capabilities, achieving 60 percent carbon reduction, 20 percent cost savings, and performance improvements across their operations. JFrog's EKS journey began when their self-managed EC2 instances became increasingly complex to manage at scale. The company needed a solution to handle global software delivery while maintaining optimal performance for their enterprise customers. Their migration to Amazon EKS provided the multi-region deployment and infrastructure-as-code capabilities they sought. Building on this success, JFrog adopted Graviton processors, achieving a seamless transition of workloads without disrupting production environments.
"Amazon EKS freed us to focus on customer needs rather than infrastructure maintenance, while Graviton processors enhanced our innovation capabilities," said Wes Kanazawa, Senior DevOps Engineer at JFrog. This technological combination became instrumental in JFrog's transformation. The implementation strategy prioritized developer experience through a carefully planned approach. The DevOps team established existing processes as default, then created a new architecture with specific taints, tolerations, and node affinity for Graviton nodes. This methodology allowed development teams to migrate at their own pace without operational disruptions. The migration strengthens JFrog's 'Liquid Software' vision, enabling seamless dev-to-production flow. JFrog continues to explore Amazon EKS and Graviton innovations while prioritizing sustainability and customer excellence.

Amazon EKS definitely helps us because we are multi-region and we're across the globe, having the stability and reliability of EKS, it allows us to put more focus on our customers than we would have to necessarily if we had to maintain everything ourselves with the infrastructure."
