Before a customer places an order, Amazon is already preparing for it. Supply Chain Optimization Technology, SCOT, forecasts demand and determines the most cost-effective way to distribute tens of millions of products weekly across Amazon's global warehouse network — saving hundreds of millions of dollars annually. Built with Amazon SageMaker AI, SCOT's forecasting models process over 400 million items — with Amazon EMR handling the data and Amazon EKS executing the transformations that drive billions of strategy decisions. 

Journey of a Package

Watch a package move through an Amazon fulfillment center — from picking items off inventory shelves, to packing and labeling (SLAM: Ship, Label, Apply, Manifest), to staging at the dock for carrier pickup. Proteus

Amazon fully autonomous mobile robot, operating seamlessly alongside human workers — no special vests, beacons, or physical barriers required. Foundation models built in Amazon SageMaker AI give Proteus vision and decision-making capabilities, while LiDAR and 3D point cloud processing enable real-time navigation in dynamic environments.

Vulcan

Amazon’s first robot with a sense of touch.  It uses computer vision, force-feedback sensors, and machine learning to recognize, grasp, and place items of any shape or size — boxes, bags, and everything in between. Built with AWS IoT and continuously retrained using Amazon SageMaker AI and SageMaker Ground Truth, Vulcan gets smarter with every pick. 

Deepfleet

A foundation model that acts as an intelligent traffic management system for Amazon's fulfillment centers — coordinating thousands of drive units like Hercules and Pegasus to cut robot travel time by 10%. Built and trained on Amazon SageMaker AI, DeepFleet continuously learns from Amazon's inventory movement data to drive efficiencies across the entire fulfillment network.

Rivian Electric Delivery Vehicles

Amazon operates over 30,000 custom Rivian electric delivery vans across the US, featuring first-of-its-kind embedded technologies that connect delivery workflow with vehicle and driver. On-board technology includes Vision-Assisted Package Retrieval (VAPR), which uses AI-powered computer vision to help drivers instantly identify and retrieve packages in any lighting condition, and Fleet Edge, which uses cameras and GPS to detect road changes in real time — both built with AWS to continuously improve delivery operations.

Prime Air Drones

Amazon's Prime Air drones deliver customer orders in under 60 minutes, up to 7.5 miles from an Amazon facility. The MK30 drone navigates autonomously using onboard sense-and-avoid technology and Beyond Visual Line of Sight capabilities. Behind every flight, AWS orchestrates it all: processing terabytes of data to identify safe delivery points, ensuring every flight is planned with up-to-the-minute precision.
