AWS Storage Gateway Is Now Available as a Hardware Appliance

Posted on: Sep 18, 2018

AWS Storage Gateway is now available pre-installed on a hardware appliance, which you can buy directly from amazon.com, and manage from the AWS console. The appliance is based on a Dell EMC PowerEdge server with a validated configuration, and provides you an additional deployment option to the existing VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V or Amazon EC2 virtual machines available today.

AWS Storage Gateway enables hybrid cloud storage. It connects on-premises applications to AWS storage services, and provides low-latency data access through local caching. You can use the service for backup, archiving and disaster recovery, tiering data to the cloud, application file storage, and data processing workflows. AWS Storage Gateway uses standard storage protocols (NFS, SMB, iSCSI, and iSCSI-VTL), so your applications can store files, block volumes, snapshots, and virtual tape backups in AWS.

You can buy the appliance on amazon.com with an Amazon or Amazon Business account, for delivery within the United States. The appliance can be used with the US East (Northern Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon) and US West (Northern California) AWS regions. To learn more, visit the AWS Storage Gateway webpages and the hardware appliance documentation, or try it out.
