AWS Storage Gateway adds schedule-based network bandwidth throttling for Tape and Volume Gateway

Posted on: Nov 9, 2020

AWS Storage Gateway now supports schedule-based network bandwidth throttling for Tape Gateway and Volume Gateway, enabling you to optimize network use between your data center and AWS for data synchronization.

With this launch, you can throttle network bandwidth used by the gateway to synchronize on-premises data with AWS based on a schedule you set on the gateway. This enables you to optimally use your network connection to AWS, regulating bandwidth use during peak time to minimize network congestion and using all your available bandwidth during off-peak hours.

Storage Gateway is a hybrid cloud storage service that provides on-premises applications access to virtually unlimited cloud storage using NFS, SMB, iSCSI, and iSCSI-VTL interfaces through file, tape, and volume gateways. You can use the service for backing up and archiving data to AWS, providing on-premises file shares backed by cloud storage, and providing on-premises applications low latency access to in-cloud data.

This expanded capability is available on new gateways starting today in every Region where AWS Storage Gateway is available. For existing gateways this new capability will be made available during the next scheduled software update. To learn more, visit the AWS Storage Gateway User Guide or read our blog. Access the Storage Gateway console to get started.
