David’s early engagement with QuickSight and the Community
David Wong became an Expert in the QuickSight Community through his active participation and valuable contributions to the Community Q&A forum. In 2024, David provided more than 240 replies and more than 80 vetted solutions to questions from the Community.
David’s journey with Amazon QuickSight began in 2019 when he sought a more cost-effective analytics solution for his company. He discovered QuickSight through a customer who had already integrated it into their system. Eager to connect with other users, David joined the first version of the QuickSight Community before its revamp in 2022. The shift to the current platform brought significant improvements, including enhanced Community features such as events, blogs, and videos, and a wealth of new learning resources in addition to the Q&A, like our Learning Dashboard, Q Corner, and Developer Corner. David appreciates how the modern platform fosters a more interactive and supportive environment, allowing members to connect more effectively and access valuable knowledge more easily.
David is not only active in the Q&A forum, though. His article on Level-Aware Calculations: Tips and Best Practices has thousands of views and has been extremely popular within the Community. David also played a crucial role in providing feedback and suggestions to shape our Developer Corner, a one-stop shop for embedded analytics where QuickSight developers can find resources on how to add interactive dashboards, visuals, and Q&A to their apps, websites, and portals. His involvement not only helps individual users but also drives the evolution of Community resources and support.
How David gained Expert status in the Community
David’s participation in the QuickSight Community began with a strong motivation to give back and support others. Driven by his enjoyment of teaching, problem-solving, and a commitment to staying sharp with his QuickSight skills, David immersed himself in the Community, offering help and sharing insights. When explaining his method for answering questions on the Q&A forum, David explains, “I don’t try to just give the answer. I try to actually teach.” His engagement allows him to contribute meaningfully while honing his own expertise.
As a recognized QuickSight Community Expert, David’s impact extends beyond individual contributions. He has built valuable connections with AWS product managers, enhancing his understanding of industry developments and best practices. This network has provided him with numerous learning opportunities and career development insights, underscoring the significant benefits of his role within the Community.
In his role, David uses QuickSight for various practical applications. He is responsible for managing QuickSight assets and creating insightful dashboards that drive decision-making. David’s work involves researching and implementing new features, such as embedding capabilities and Amazon Q integration, to enhance the functionality and effectiveness of QuickSight solutions within his organization.
David enjoys contributing to the QuickSight Community by answering questions on the Community Q&A forum. When he was just beginning to learn QuickSight, many people helped him and answered his questions. Now, he feels it’s his turn to give back. As he explains, “I solve QuickSight problems on the Community Q&A forum in the same way that some people solve crossword puzzles.” He finds the process rewarding and likes being able to share his knowledge to help others who may be facing similar challenges.
The ripple effect of the Community
David Wong’s impact on the QuickSight Community is exemplified by his role in transforming the experiences of fellow members. One notable story is when David guided a Community member from being a novice to becoming a QuickSight Expert himself. Through his supportive guidance, David not only empowered this individual but also sparked a broader chain reaction of learning within the Community.
