In the news: What businesses can learn from sports leagues

Bundesliga, Germany’s premier national football league, is using artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), analytics, compute, database, and storage services from Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deliver real-time statistics that improve insights into game strategy and outcomes and to recommend personalized match footage for fans across mobile, online, streaming, and television broadcasts.

In this recent Wall Street Journal (WSJ) article from Werner Vogels, Chief Technology Officer and Vice President, Amazon, dive deeper into how the Bundesliga is building closer connections with fans with the power of the cloud.

“The Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL), the organizing body of Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, uses AWS to provide real-time statistics and facts to give fans insight into game strategy, personalize content for millions of fans worldwide, and create an exciting mobile experience with its award-winning interactive feed,” Vogels says.

In addition, the DFL provides fans with real-time statistics and in-depth insights called Bundesliga Match Facts. In a survey of international Bundesliga fans, 95 percent said that they received added value from Bundesliga Match Facts, and 88 percent said that advanced analytics helped them to understand the game better.
