Announcing the New AWS Nonprofit Competency
The AWS Competency Program highlights top AWS Partner Network (APN) partners who have demonstrated technical proficiency and customer success in specialized solution or industry areas. Within the public sector, we have Education Competency Partners and Government Competency Partners. Today, we are adding a third competency: the Nonprofit Competency.
AWS Public Sector Contract Center Expansion
We are excited to announce the expansion of the AWS Public Sector Contract Center. Public sector organizations can look to leverage existing contract vehicles as a means to procure cloud services, drastically accelerating procurement. This allows public sector organizations to focus on mission delivery.
It Starts with Leadership: Insights from AWS Partners, Customers, & Industry Experts
Members of our AWS Partner Network, customers, and industry experts were recently featured on a special broadcast of Government Matters, a program centered on information and analysis covering technology, security, defense, management, industry, and the workforce. Here are some key takeaways from cloud leaders who joined the show.
Training the Warfighter on the Cloud
The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) charted their path to the cloud back in 2012 with the cloud directive. Since then, they have made strides in accelerating the adoption of cloud computing throughout the department. Critical to the success of cloud adoption is training the warfighter on how to use the new technology. What better way to train soldiers in the cloud, than through a “born-in-the-cloud” startup. The Data Incubator is a growing startup and AWS Partner Network (APN) member who not only uses AWS, but also trains defense agencies on how to use AWS tools in the cloud across all data classification levels.
How DigitalGlobe Uses Amazon SageMaker to Manage Machine Learning at Scale
If you have ever searched for directions, called an Uber, or looked up a trailhead, you have used DigitalGlobe’s imagery or information derived from it. DigitalGlobe went all-in on AWS to meet the growing demand for commercial geo-intelligence, migrating its entire 18-year imagery archive to the cloud. The company used AWS Snowmobile to move 100 petabytes of data to the cloud, allowing it to move away from large file-transfer protocols and delivery workflows.
Search for Public Sector Contract Vehicles in the AWS Partner Solutions Finder
We are excited to announce the addition of Public Sector Contract Vehicles as a new search option in the AWS Partner Solutions Finder. Public sector organizations can now quickly and easily identify AWS Partner Network (APN) partners who hold contract vehicles by adding a specific contract vehicle to their search using a keyword or by selecting one or more contracts from the drop-down list.
Canadian Federal Government Awards Multiple Contracts to AWS Partners for Access to AWS Cloud Services
Shared Services Canada (SSC) is the central IT service provider of the federal government of Canada. It delivers infrastructure services related to email, data centers, telecommunications, and workplace technology devices for 43 federal agencies. Currently, they operate approximately 700 data centers running roughly 14,000 applications. To meet the future needs of the government, SSC plans to drive efficiencies and augment their computing capacity through data center modernization and consolidation, and the adoption of cloud computing between 2017 and 2024.
Accelerating Mission-Critical Development for National Defense
National defense organizations have some of the most demanding software requirements in the world. Stringent security standards and complex environments make it challenging for developers to work efficiently. Because systems are deployed across large, proprietary government data centers, development teams find it challenging to create production-like environments for coding and testing. This, in turn, reduces the number of testing cycles that can be performed in a given amount of time.
Quickly Achieve Full IT Operations in the Cloud
With defense agencies looking to quickly migrate legacy applications to a government-approved, commercial cloud environment of their choice, the Department of Defense (DoD) has entered into an agreement with REAN Cloud to provide a new streamlined and consultative process to procure cloud solutions.
Open Data, Data Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence: How the Cloud is Taking on the Opioid Epidemic
The recent Winter Innovation Summit in Salt Lake City, Utah, showcased a breakthrough Sundance documentary, Dying in Vein. Its filmmaker, Jenny Mackenzie, joined a panel of public health and technology leaders, including Dr. Bill Hazel, former Secretary of Health and Human Resources for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and Alex Chan, CEO of the Clinton Foundation Health Initiative, to discuss opiate and heroin addiction, which, as the film highlights, claims an average of 90 lives in the U.S. daily. A prevailing theme that emerged cast the opioid epidemic as an issue of public health – rather than one of criminal justice – and pressed the role of technology in mitigating its risks.
