Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Immersion Day?
An Immersion Day allows hands-on time with AWS services under the guidance of Solution Architects for a particular topic. They are designed by topic, and typically have 2-4 presentations along with 2-4 hands on labs that follow a continuous thread to help learners become familiar with the service. These events are a common starting point for customers looking to prepare to use a service or solution in a meaningful project.

Are there different categories of Immersion Days?
Standard: See “What is an Immersion Day?”
Game Day: A Game Day is a team learning exercise that tests skills in implementing AWS solutions to solve real-world problems in a gamified, risk-free environment. There is usually no cost for this event.
Experience Labs: Experience Labs are technical workshops designed to provide guided hands-on experience with AWS services and solutions in under 3 hours without the need for prior AWS experience. These labs will take place in your AWS account and a cost can be associated with this type of Lab.

Do I need experience using AWS services to attend the event?
Not at all. You might want to plan on attending the monthly Intro to AWS course we offer if this will be your first time using AWS services.

Will there be any hands on during the event?
Many of the events offer “hands on” labs to help you get to know a service. Please check in the description of the course to see if hands on labs are included.

Will using the services during the event cost me money?
During the Immersion Days and Game Days, there is no cost to you. You will be given an AWS account for the day to perform the labs in a temporary environment. The Experience labs are designed to be done in your AWS account. At the beginning of the event, we will let you know the cost involved. Control Tower itself has no cost associated with it, but the different services you utilize will determine the cost. This will vary by customer for their specific use case.

Do I need an AWS account to attend?
Not at all. However, if you would like help setting up your account, just let your moderator know when you join and we will setup a time that works for you.

How many events can I attended?
There are no restrictions on the number of events you can attend.

What should I do if I do not receive a confirmation email after registering?
Please reach out to csc-immersion-day@amazon.com and make sure you include the event title and date in your email.

What happens if I show up late?
We ask that you show up on time. Please plan to join the event at the beginning so we can make sure you are set up with this temporary AWS account. If you join the event late, you may not be able to actively participate in the labs. You will still be able to watch the labs as a demo and work on them in your own AWS account at a later date.

Do I need to download anything before the event?
For most events, nothing is required. If your event requires any special downloads, it will be referenced in the email confirmation you receive. Depending on the platform for the event, you may need to download the client to participate.

What platforms do you use?
In 2023, we will be utilizing Webex. For specific platform requirements please visit: https://help.webex.com/en-us/article/fz1e4b/System-requirements-for-Webex-services.

What browser can I use?
For web versions of the training platform we suggest the chrome browser. Complete requirements can be found by clicking on the hyperlinks in the “What platforms do you use” FAQ.

Do I have to stay for the entire event?
There is no time requirement, however, we don’t record the sessions so you could miss important information if you leave early. Many of the events happen on a reoccurring basis, so you can possibly attend another session if you have to leave early.

Will I be given a recording of the event?
These events are not being recorded.

Should I use my company email to register?
We prefer that you use your company email to register. By registering with your company email, we can quickly and easily get you connected with your account team.

Will I be given a copy of the slides presented during the event?
In order to receive slides form the presentations, you will need to provide your full name, your company name, and your company email address. Provide this information to your moderator and they will have your account representative contact you with the slide decks.

Are Sessions offered in any other language?
At this time, we will have sessions available in English, Canadian French, Spanish and Portuguese. Not all sessions are available in all languages. The delivery language will be noted on the specific event.

How can I contact the AWS Virtual Event Center representatives if I have questions that aren't listed here?
You can contact our team via email csc-immersion-day@amazon.com.

What is AWS Builder’s Quest?
AWS Builder's Quest is a digital badge program that provides recognition for participation and completion of AWS technology learning events. These events include AWS Immersion Days. AWS Builder's Quest is an innovative and fun way for builders to receive recognition for an AWS technology learning event by obtaining digital badges. This event is currently in a pilot program, so digital badges are not yet available for all events. Please refer to the individual event to see what badge is available.

Why is it called AWS Builder’s Quest?
Customers embark on the quest and achieve the next level by accumulation of AWS Learning Participant badges. There are two types of digital badges earned for AWS Builder's Quest.

  • AWS Builder's Quest Learning Participant badges provides recognition for participation and completion of AWS technology learning events.
  • AWS Builder's Quest Level badges consist of five levels.

Why be part of AWS Builder’s Quest?
AWS Builder’s Quest asserts that a builder successfully completed an AWS technology learning event. As a part of AWS Builder's Quest, builders can visually represent their achievements using digital badges which can be used to showcase a rich picture of a learning journey on professional networks such as LinkedIn.

Who can use AWS Builder’s Quest?
Any builder who participates in a technology learning event hosted by an AWS Solutions Architect such as AWS Immersion Days.

What is the difference between AWS Builder’s Quest and AWS Certification?
An AWS Builder’s Quest Learning Participant badge asserts that a learner has successfully completed a formal technology learning event such as AWS Immersion Days, and has met the criteria outlined by the program to award the badge. There is no written or formal testing required post event to attest to proficiency of the specific service. AWS certification provides documentation of competency and proficiency of a specific area. AWS Certification requires passing a formal test to be certified.

When will AWS Builder’s Quest be available?
We are launching the pilot in March 2023 focusing on the Solution Focused Immersion Day events with a full rollout to other AWS Immersion Days in the first half of 2023. For additional information, reach out to aws-builders-quest@amazon.com.
