Learn how to use tech to understand your plant environment

The Sustainability IoT Hackathon is a fun way for summit attendees to learn about hydroponics and sustainable agriculture. Each session will host 10 teams that has to gain insights by collecting data about the health of your own hydroponics environment at the summit venue. During the hackathon, you will have the opportunity to interact with a cloud-connected IoT device, AWS services such as AWS IoT Core, AWS IoT SiteWise and AWS IoT TwinMaker as well as your own dashboard running on container technology on AWS.

Team Challenge

Each team of 3 will receive a hydroponics kit and an IoT device with sensors. We will give you an overview of the challenge, teach you how to write example code using simple visual blocks and then each team will have 70 minutes to build a solution that:

  • Monitors and measures the nutrients in the water, displays the temperature of the water and remotely turns on/off a water pump responsible for circulating water in your hydroponics system
  • .Displays statistics in real time on a open source Grafana dashboard running on container technology on AWS 
  • Visualises your hydroponics environment using 3D models and creating your own a ‘digital twin’.

Team Requirements:

  1. Please ensure you have a team of minimum 2 and up to 3 people in your team.
  2. Each team member should register and attend the AWS Summit Stockholm.
  3. In order to participate, you will have to have an intermediate understanding of AWS services and console.
  4. Hackathon participants are required to bring their own laptops.
