Paul Krebs

AWS Executive in Residence

"The best transformations don't start with technology — they start with a willingness to challenge everything you assume about how the business needs to and can work to get to the outcomes you are trying to achieve."

Getting to know

Paul Krebs, AWS Executive in Residence

Paul brings expertise to AWS

Paul is an Executive in Residence at AWS who partners with C-suite and business technology leaders to accelerate enterprise transformation and deliver measurable business outcomes. With over 25 years at the intersection of business strategy, technology, and analytics, including transformation, CIO, and board leadership roles at Koch Inc, at The Coca-Cola Company, and as a startup founder and consultant he brings battle-tested insights to complex business change initiatives across industrial, consumer goods, and high-tech sectors.

Paul's experience before joining AWS

As a Chief Transformation Officer and CIO, Paul has turned strategy into results by leading enterprise-wide modernization at scale: directing a ~$3B transformation portfolio that helped Koch Inc. dramatically improve profitability, transitioning a multi-business technology portfolio to cloud and modern architecture practices, modernizing ERP platforms, standing up a Generative and Agentic AI Innovation Center, and scaling AI/ML across 30+ industries in manufacturing, supply chain, and commercial operations. He also served on the Board of Infor, a leading enterprise software company, and as an operating advisor to several of Koch's venture and private equity portfolio companies—giving him a unique vantage point on how technology creates value from startup to global enterprise.

AI philosophy

For Paul, AI is not a standalone initiative to be managed in isolation — it is an investment that must be governed the same way any other business capability is: by the outcomes it serves. He believes AI budgets should not be capped independently but managed by the business owners accountable for results, allowing spend to scale in proportion to value created. This philosophy extends into a maturity framework he developed at Koch Industries — one that moves organizations through progressive stages: from individual employee enablement, through use-case and domain-level impact, to full business and industry transformation. It is a disciplined, customer-back approach that treats AI not as a technology experiment but as an enterprise capability to be scaled deliberately. That conviction — that transformation must be measured in business outcomes, not technology deployments — is at the heart of his work.

Paul's leadership perspective

What sets Paul apart is his entrepreneurial mindset and ability to navigate the human and organizational side of change—rethinking operating models, building new capabilities, and creating cultures that embrace continuous reinvention. Paul is a builder by nature — he founded a technology company early in his career and has spent over two decades helping large, complex organizations move from vision to execution.
