Benefits

RELIABLE DELIVERABILITY

Amazon Pinpoint uses messaging routes that are optimized for the highest deliverability. Amazon Pinpoint dynamically picks the best route to each destination number, and automatically switches to different routes if delivery failures occur. Additionally, you can use the Phone Number Validate feature to correct data entry errors and clean up the phone numbers in your customer database. These features help you protect your sender reputation and improve the delivery of future SMS messages.

GLOBAL REACH

Amazon Pinpoint’s SMS channel helps you reliably reach customers in more than 200 countries and regions. You can lease short codes and set up sender IDs in several countries and regions around the world to provide a localized experience for your customers. Amazon Pinpoint also helps ensure that your messages are sent in a way that complies with the rules of each recipient's country or region. For a complete list of countries and regions that you can send SMS messages to, see the Amazon Pinpoint User Guide.

INTERACTIVE ENGAGEMENTS

With two-way text messaging, you can receive SMS messages from your customers and reply back to them in a chat-like interactive experience. With Amazon Pinpoint, you can create automatic responses when customers send you messages that contain certain keywords. You can also use Amazon Pinpoint and Amazon Lex, a service for building conversational interfaces into any application using voice and text, together to create chat bots that your customers can converse with.

INTEGRATE WITH AWS ECOSYSTEM

You can integrate Amazon Pinpoint with the entire ecosystem of AWS services. This enables you to integrate with machine learning services such as AWS Lambda, Amazon Lex, Amazon Personalize, Amazon Comprehend, and Amazon Transcribe to support use cases such as real-time sentiment analysis, language translation, and predictive personalization. Combining Amazon Pinpoint with other services allows you to create even more powerful and innovative engagement experience for your customers.

Key features

Dedicated Phone Numbers

Depending on the countries or regions where your customers are located, you can send messages using shared short codes, dedicated short codes, dedicated long codes, or sender IDs. We can help you lease short codes and set up sender IDs in several countries and regions around the world. This ensures a seamless, branded experience for your customers and helps protect your sender reputation for higher delivery success.

For example, if your company has two brands, you can use a separate short code for each one. Similarly, if you send both transactional and promotional messages, you can use a separate short code for each type of message. To learn more about requesting short codes, please see the Amazon Pinpoint User Guide.

Opt-Out Management

When you use Amazon Pinpoint to send a message to a recipient in the United States, we send your message using a shared short code (or, for an extra monthly charge, a dedicated short or long code). When customers reply to your messages with a keyword such as “STOP” or “OPT-OUT” Amazon Pinpoint automatically sends them a final confirmation message, and then changes their opt status so that they don't receive messages from you in the future. To learn about other best practices related to SMS messages opt-out management, see the Amazon Pinpoint User Guide.

Phone Number Validate

Use the Phone Number Validate feature to correct data entry errors and clean up the phone numbers in your customer database. If your customers provide their contact information by completing a web form, it’s not unusual that they submit phone numbers that aren’t able to receive text messages, such as land-line or VoIP numbers. Phone Number Validate helps you determine the phone number type—mobile, landline, or VoIP. You can use this information to make sure that you only send SMS messages to customers that are able to receive SMS messages. If you find customers who can't receive SMS messages, you can send them voice messages instead. This helps protect your sender reputation and ensures that you choose the right channel to reach your customers with important messages.

Analytics

To analyze your SMS activity, such as successful and failed message deliveries or number of customer opt-outs, you can configure Amazon Pinpoint to stream SMS event data to Amazon Kinesis Data Streams or Amazon Kinesis Data Firehose. Then, you can use the Kinesis platform to analyze your SMS performance data. For more information, see Streaming Amazon Pinpoint Events to Kinesis. You can also use the SMS analytics dashboard within the console, which includes information about the number of SMS messages that you sent, the number of messages that were received, and your average delivery rate. It also includes a section that breaks out your message deliveries by country. This data makes it easy to see how many messages you sent to each country or region, as well as the average price that you paid for sending those messages.

For examples of the event data that Amazon Pinpoint streams to Kinesis, see Event Data in the Amazon Pinpoint Developer Guide. For more information about the SMS analytics dashboards, see Transactional Messaging Charts in Amazon Pinpoint User Guide.

Local Compliance

In the SMS industry, laws and regulations change rapidly. Amazon Pinpoint makes it easy to comply with local SMS regulation and helps ensure that your messages are sent in a way that complies with the rules of each recipient's country or region. For example, in France, application-to-person (A2P) SMS messages must be sent from a pre-approved sender ID. When you send SMS messages to customers in France, Amazon Pinpoint automatically sends your messages from a pre-approved ID.

Important: You're responsible for complying with all applicable local laws and regulations. Always familiarize yourself with the SMS marketing requirements in the countries and regions where your customers are located.
