Introducing Amazon EC2 z1d Instances with a sustained all core frequency of up to 4.0 GHz

Posted on: Jul 25, 2018

Amazon EC2 z1d instances deliver a sustained all core frequency of up to 4.0 GHz, the fastest of any cloud instance. z1d instances feature a custom Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor that can run all cores at up to 4.0 GHz sustained. z1d instances include up to 1.8TB of local instance storage and are available in 6 sizes with up to 48 vCPUs and 384 GiB memory. Support for a z1d bare metal instance size will be available soon.

The combination of high compute performance and high memory makes z1d instances ideal for electronic design automation (EDA), gaming, and certain relational database workloads with high per-core licensing costs. z1d instances use the Nitro system, which eliminates all virtualization overhead to deliver more hardware resources to your workloads. In addition, the Nitro system provides direct access to high-speed local storage over a PCI interface and transparently encrypts all data using dedicated hardware. It also includes a component that continuously monitors and protects hardware resources and independently verifies firmware each time a system boots.

Amazon EC2 z1d instances are currently available in US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), US West (N. California), EU (Ireland), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), and Asia Pacific (Singapore) AWS regions. To learn more about z1d instances, visit Amazon EC2 z1d Instances.
