AWS DataSync can now transfer data to and from AWS Snowcone

Posted on: Jun 17, 2020

AWS DataSync now supports transferring files to and from AWS Snowcone, the smallest member of the AWS Snow Family of edge computing and data transfer devices. Snowcone is portable, ruggedized, and secure – small and light enough to fit in a backpack, and able to withstand harsh environments. The DataSync agent comes pre-installed on the device to transfer data online to and from Amazon S3, Amazon EFS, or Amazon FSx for Windows File Server.

You can use Snowcone to deploy applications at the edge, and to collect, process, and move data to AWS. DataSync enables you to easily set up online transfers of files and objects between Snowcone and AWS Storage services. DataSync automates data transfers, including encryption, scheduling, monitoring, and data integrity validation. It is natively integrated with Amazon S3, Amazon EFS, Amazon FSx for Windows File Server, Amazon CloudWatch, and AWS CloudTrail, which provides seamless and secure access to your storage services, as well as detailed monitoring of the transfer.

Snowcone is available for customers in US locations, and can be used with DataSync to transfer to 22 AWS Regions. To learn more, view the Snowcone product page and the Snowcone AWS News launch blog. To set up online data transfers, see the DataSync documentation, and to get started, log in to the Snowcone console.
