Amazon WorkSpaces Streaming Protocol now Generally Available

Posted on: Dec 1, 2020

The Amazon WorkSpaces Streaming Protocol (WSP) is now generally available. WSP is a cloud-native streaming protocol that enables a consistent user experience when accessing your WorkSpaces across global distances and unreliable networks.

WSP also enables additional features, such as Common Access Card (CAC) and Personal Identity Verification (PIV) smart card support and video camera support. On Windows clients, CAC/PIV smart card support enables access to protected applications from within a WorkSpaces instance (in-session authentication) or for authenticating into a WorkSpaces instance (pre-session authentication). Currently in beta, video camera support enables Mac and Windows clients to use their video conferencing application of choice within WorkSpaces.

WSP Windows WorkSpaces, with in-session CAC/PIV smart card authentication and video camera support, is available in commercial regions in which WorkSpaces is available today as well as in AWS GovCloud (US-West). Pre-session smart card authentication support is available in the AWS GovCloud (US-West) region.
