KONE is using Amazon Web Services (AWS) and generative artificial intelligence (AI) to speed up elevator and escalator maintenance. Accessing foundation model Claude 3 through Amazon Bedrock, the company created the Technician Assistant. As Amy Chen, senior vice president and chief innovation officer, says, generative AI is making a positive impact on technicians’ work and helping to deliver a better service to customers.

Rush-hour crowding in metro stations can cause various challenges which could be dangerous at times as bottlenecks can build, with risks of accidents or stampedes. KONE saw a pressing need of station operators and managers to reduce the risk of accidents, improve passenger safety, and secure the flow of millions of daily journeys.

KONE Corporation, a global leader in elevators and escalators, implemented a generative AI solution using Amazon Bedrock to enhance their field service operations. Their primary use case involves a technician assistant that helps over 40,000 field technicians per day to resolve equipment issues more efficiently, handling approximately 30,000 technical help desk calls monthly.
