Key Outcomes
Overview
Aerospace company LiveEO uses many software products to support its operations. As the business scaled, the team at LiveEO wanted to improve visibility into its supplier contracts and consolidate billing. The company was also looking for a solution that would free up its cash flow and optimize costs.
As a longtime user of Amazon Web Services (AWS), LiveEO turned to AWS Marketplace, where companies find, try, buy, deploy, and manage software that runs on AWS. To help the company manage subscriptions, streamline billing, and optimize costs, LiveEO renegotiated the contracts for its existing software stack so that it could procure these solutions in AWS Marketplace.
About LiveEO
LiveEO aims to unlock the full potential of Earth Observation data for the benefit of humankind. It uses high-resolution satellite data and AI-powered algorithms to revolutionize critical asset monitoring and regulatory compliance.
Opportunity | Using AWS Marketplace to Streamline Contract Management for LiveEO
Founded in 2018, LiveEO aims to unlock the full potential of Earth Observation data for the benefit of humankind and to protect life on Earth. Its solutions use high-resolution satellite data and algorithms powered by artificial intelligence (AI) to create actionable insights for critical infrastructure operators across Europe, the United States, Canada, and Australia. Common use cases for its solutions include deforestation monitoring and infrastructure monitoring. In 2024, the company tripled in growth and raised twenty-five million euros in series B funding.
As LiveEO has expanded, so have its usage of software-as-a-service (SaaS) offerings. “We had a wide range of SaaS suppliers when I arrived at the company,” says Eitan Schuler, head of infrastructure at LiveEO. “It was challenging to maintain oversight of our contracts since there was no central storage location.” At the time, the company’s contracts were stored and managed across individual employees’ accounts.
So, LiveEO began to centralize visibility into its subscriptions by streamlining software procurement in AWS Marketplace. As a longtime customer who has benefited from AWS infrastructure, services, and technical support, the company saw the digital storefront as a natural extension of its cloud strategy. Customers like LiveEO can streamline procurement; enhance security, governance, and control; and optimize costs with centralized billing and management on AWS. “I really appreciate the simplicity,” says Schuler. “In one place, we can see every purchase and every single solution we use. It’s a huge advantage. It also simplifies the due-diligence process on third-party software.”
Solution | Saving on Software Costs and Achieving Improved Cash Flow with a New Procurement Strategy
Over the next eighteen months, LiveEO gradually converted most of its contracts with third-party SaaS providers to start experiencing benefits in AWS Marketplace. The switch was simple; when LiveEO renegotiated custom terms with vendors, accepting the new AWS Marketplace Private Offer was fast. “Within one day, the Private Offer appeared in AWS Marketplace,” says Schuler. LiveEO has switched eight of its contracts and counting.
With a consolidated SaaS footprint, monitoring contracts and billing is a much more efficient process. “I don’t have to dig up old contracts from my email or someone else’s account,” says Schuler. “Irrespective of who is leaving the company, most of our contracts are in one place. It’s visible and transparent. It also gives me peace of mind to know that I’m dealing with AWS Partners that meet our security and compliance requirements.”
In AWS Marketplace, customers like LiveEO can also gain visibility into their associated spend across all AWS accounts, track usage and costs, and manage forecasting and budgeting. “By procuring software in AWS Marketplace, we have reduced our overall software costs by three percent,” says Schuler. “We also benefit from flexible payment options; many vendors offer a monthly subscription instead of one annual payment. It is very cash-flow friendly.” The money saved in AWS Marketplace goes right back into improving LiveEO’s solutions. The company invests these savings in its research and development team, who are focused on developing more advanced AI tools. With this investment, LiveEO can make its satellite analysis technology even more powerful.
Based on its experience with AWS Marketplace, LiveEO joined the AWS ISV Accelerate (ISVA) Program (now known as SaaS Co-Sell Benefit), a global co-sell program for AWS Partners who provide software solutions that run on AWS and sell in AWS Marketplace. By participating in AWS ISVA, LiveEO can expand its reach to potential customers who already run their workloads on AWS. “We are committed to making software purchases convenient for our customers, which is why we chose AWS Marketplace as a key go-to-market channel,” says Schuler.
LiveEO now offers two of its Earth Observation solutions in AWS Marketplace. One is Treeline—a solution that delivers timely and actionable intelligence to protect linear infrastructure like electrical grids and rail networks against vegetation-related risks. The company also sells TradeAware, which importers use to comply with the European Union Deforestation Regulation.
Outcome | Offering Earth Observation Solutions in AWS Marketplace
By offering its solutions in AWS Marketplace, LiveEO can effectively market its products to existing AWS customers. “The AWS team can point people directly to our solutions in AWS Marketplace,” says Schuler. “It signals to potential customers that our high-quality products run on and are protected by industry-leading infrastructure.”
Moving forward, LiveEO will continue to sell and procure more software in AWS Marketplace. “AWS Marketplace has helped with our business operations,” says Schuler. “It saves time and streamlines procurement processes, allowing me to focus on other important tasks.”
