Starting today, you can specify a database parameter group when you restore an Amazon RDS or Amazon Aurora database from a snapshot or restore a database to a specific point in in time. Previously, restoring a database used the default parameter group and you had to wait until the restore was finished before changing it to the desired configuration.
Amazon RDS Backup and Restore creates and saves automated backups of your DB instance securely in Amazon S3 for a user-specified retention period. In addition, Amazon RDS support database snapshots, user-initiated backups of your instance that are kept until you explicitly delete them. Now that you can select a parameter group before restore, your databases will be configured correctly as soon as they are available.
