Today we are announcing a 60% improvement in performance of General Purpose SSD (gp2) Volumes from 10,000 IOPS to 16,000 IOPS and from 160 MB/s to 250 MB/s of throughput per volume.
As the default EBS volume type for Amazon EC2 instances, gp2 volumes are backed by solid-state drives and recommended for most workloads. This improvement results in faster performance for a broad range of workloads, including virtual desktops, dev/test environments, low-latency interactive applications, and boot volumes. This feature is available now in all AWS regions worldwide. To learn more, please visit the Amazon EBS features page.
