AWS Direct Connect is now live at two new locations in Silicon Valley and Stockholm. In Silicon Valley, AWS Direct Connect launched its third location at CoreSite SV2, Milpitas. This location is the first new location that offers logical redundancy over a single virtual interface (VIF) on a Direct Connect connection, a new capability launched last month. Logical redundancy can reduce downtime when a BGP peering session goes down due to a device failure or maintenance activity on the AWS side. CoreSite SV2, Milpitas can be found under its associated home region of US West (N. California). With Direct Connect Gateway and global public VIFs, customers can access their resources in any global AWS Region (except China).
AWS announced the launch of the EU (Stockholm) Region on December 12. In parallel, AWS launched a new second AWS Direct Connect location at Equinix SK1, Stockholm. It can be found in the AWS Management Console under the associated home region of EU (Stockholm). AWS Direct Connect also has an existing location in Stockholm at Interxion STO1 that can be found in the AWS Management Console under the EU (Frankfurt) Region. Customers can access the EU (Stockholm) Region from both of these locations. Note that from the Interxion STO1 location, customers will need to use Direct Connect Gateway to access your Amazon VPC resources in the EU (Stockholm) Region.
As with any AWS Direct Connect location, these locations conform to the standard resiliency model that includes two customer facing devices per location that allow customers to establish locally resilient and redundant phyiscal connectivity to the Amazon backbone network. Please take a look at our resiliency recommendations when planning your connectivity. Using AWS Direct Connect, you can establish private connectivity between AWS and your datacenter, office, or colocation environment, which in many cases can reduce your network costs, increase bandwidth throughput, and provide a more consistent network experience than Internet-based connections.
Please see the AWS Direct Connect website for details on our locations, their associated home regions, the support of logical redundancy and pricing. All AWS Direct Connect locations give access to all global AWS Regions (except China) as shown in our region table. Customers can get dedicated 1Gbps or 10Gbps connections or work with a partner for connections with speeds less than 1Gbps.
