Starting today, you can package, encrypt, and originate on demand video using AWS Elemental MediaPackage. The same just-in-time packaging features that you use for live channels are now available for video on demand (VOD) content. This means you can package file-based video and live video to multiple distribution formats and protect content with multiple digital rights management (DRM) standards to make video available on a wide range of playback devices.
An adaptive bitrate (ABR) video asset, stored in a single format, can be ingested into a MediaPackage VOD packaging group. All VOD assets in a packaging group are available for playback on a range of devices, with different combinations of distribution protocol, bitrate ladder, and DRM encryption defined by the VOD packaging configurations that are applied to the packaging group. This means a single ABR video asset can be viewed on connected TVs, mobile phones, computers, tablets, and game consoles. You can also update configurations to extend the range of supported devices without having to transcode video again, which saves storage and processing costs.
With MediaPackage, you can reduce workflow complexity, increase origin resiliency, and better protect multiscreen content without the risk of under or over-provisioning infrastructure.
MediaPackage functions independently or as part of AWS Elemental Media Services, a family of services that form the foundation of cloud-based video workflows and offer the capabilities you need to transport, create, package, monetize and deliver video.
Just-in-time packaging for VOD is available in all AWS regions where AWS Elemental MediaPackage is available. Visit the AWS Region table for a full list.
