Amazon EMR Serverless is a serverless option in Amazon EMR that allows data engineers to process and analyze large datasets using popular open-source frameworks such as Apache Spark and Apache Hive without having to configure, manage, and scale clusters.
Today, we are excited to announce that Amazon EMR Serverless is now Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) eligible, Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST) certified, System and Organization Controls (SOC), and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliant. Now you can process sensitive healthcare, life sciences, and payment processing data on Amazon EMR Serverless through features such as encryption, audit logging via AWS CloudTrail, and access management through AWS Identity and Access Management.
For detailed information and best practices on configuring AWS HIPAA Eligible Services to store, process, and transmit protected health information (PHI), visit the AWS services compliance page, AWS compliance resources, and see the whitepaper Architecting for HIPAA Security and Compliance on Amazon Web Services.
HIPAA eligibility, HITRUST certification, SOC, and PCI DSS compliance is available in all AWS Regions where Amazon EMR Serverless is available. To get started with EMR Serverless, see our Amazon EMR Serverless documentation.
