AWS for SAP

Now available: New RHEL for SAP with HA and US in AWS Marketplace

While AWS and Red Hat have been working together for a long time to make it easy for our mutual customers to run SAP workloads, including SAP HANA, on AWS, our customers have had only two choices. They could run various SAP workloads on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) on-demand by using the RHEL for SAP HANA Amazon Machine Image (AMI) from AWS Marketplace. Or they could use the Bring Your Own Subscription (BYOS) model images available through the Red Hat Cloud Access program.

The RHEL for SAP HANA AMI provides an easy way for customers to get started, but the listing doesn’t have some of the most sought-after features, like support for SAP Business Applications based on SAP NetWeaver, access to Pacemaker cluster software for high availability installations, and extended four-year update support (E4S). Customers that required these important features had to use the Red Hat Cloud Access BYOS model. Over the past year, we have worked closely with Red Hat to bring these critical features to the AWS Marketplace.

Today, we are excited to share that a new product, Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP with High Availability and Update Services (RHEL for SAP with HA and US), is available in the AWS Marketplace for the US East (N. Virginia) Region, with additional Regions coming soon. Using this RHEL for SAP with HA and US, you can run SAP HANA as well as SAP Business Applications based on SAP NetWeaver. In addition, this product offers access to Red Hat Pacemaker cluster software to set up High Availability for your SAP HANA and SAP Business Applications installations. Finally, you can take advantage of E4S for certain minor versions for your mission-critical SAP workloads.

RHEL for SAP with HA and US is available through both on-demand and yearly subscription models. To quickly get started with your SAP HANA deployment, use the SAP HANA Quick Start. The SAP HANA Quick Start follows the best practices of AWS, SAP, and Red Hat to automatically provision and configure the AWS resources required for SAP HANA deployment, operating system configuration, and installation of SAP HANA software in less than an hour.

You can use RHEL for SAP with HA and US with our suite of Amazon EC2 instances that are supported by SAP, including the recently launched Amazon EC2 High Memory Instances for applications based on SAP HANA and SAP NetWeaver. Refer to SAP HANA Hardware Directory to find the list of SAP Certified Amazon EC2 instances for SAP HANA. Refer to SAP OSS Note 1656099 to find the list of SAP-supported instance types for applications based on SAP NetWeaver.
