EC2 High Memory instances offer 6, 9, 12, 18, and 24 TB of memory in an instance. These instances are purpose-built to run large in-memory databases, including production deployments of the SAP HANA in-memory database, in the cloud. EC2 High Memory instances allow you to run large in-memory databases and business applications that rely on these databases in the same, shared Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), reducing the management overhead associated with complex networking and ensuring predictable performance.
EC2 High Memory instances are EBS-Optimized by default, and offer up to 28 Gbps of dedicated storage bandwidth to encrypted and unencrypted EBS volumes. These instances deliver high networking throughput and low-latency with up to 100 Gbps of aggregate network bandwidth using Amazon Elastic Network Adapter (ENA)-based Enhanced Networking. EC2 High Memory instances with 6 TB, 9 TB, and 12 TB are powered by an 8-socket platform with Intel® Xeon® Platinum 8176M (Skylake) processors. EC2 High Memory instances with 18 TB and 24 TB are the first Amazon EC2 instances powered by an 8-socket platform with 2nd Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable (Cascade Lake) processors.
Amazon EC2 High Memory instances are certified by SAP for running Business Suite on HANA, the next-generation Business Suite S/4HANA, Data Mart Solutions on HANA, Business Warehouse on HANA, and SAP BW/4HANA in production environments.

AWS offers a wide range of memory optimized instances ranging from 244 GB R4 instances to 24 TB High Memory instances. Amazon EC2 High Memory instances have the highest amount of memory of any EC2 instance with up to 24 TB of memory. These instances are purpose-built for large in-memory databases like SAP HANA. EC2 High Memory instances are certified by SAP for running Business Suite on HANA (SoH), the next-generation Business Suite S/4HANA, Data Mart Solutions on HANA, Business Warehouse on HANA (BW), and SAP BW/4HANA in production environments. Access to AWS Cloud Resources
EC2 High Memory instances are available in Amazon Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs), and enable connectivity to AWS resources out-of-the-box without requiring any hybrid architectures. These instances support elastic storage capacity on high performance Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) volumes. You can launch your instances from the AWS Command Line Interface (CLI) and manage instances from the CLI or EC2 Console. Management of EC2 High Memory instances is easy through integration with AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM).
EC2 High Memory instances with 18 TB and 24 TB are the first ever EC2 instances built on 8-socket hosts powered by 2nd Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable (Cascade Lake) processors. These instances are available as bare metal instances on EC2 Dedicated Hosts, taking advantage of the innovation of the AWS Nitro System, a combination of purpose-built hardware and software components that provide the unparalleled performance, security, isolation, elasticity, and efficiency of the infrastructure that powers Amazon EC2 instances.
Flexibility to Scale
As customers scale up to larger in-memory database sizes, EC2 High Memory instances extend the number of choices available to customers by offering additional sizes and room for growth. Customers can start with smaller instance sizes, and easily transition to larger sizes when their data outgrows the instance. Since these are EC2 instances, customers can transition from SAP-certified X1 and X1e instances to EC2 High Memory instances as easily as they can move between 6, 9, 12, 18, or 24 TB EC2 High Memory instances.
