Containers
AWS named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Container Management
Gartner has recognized Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Container Management for the fourth consecutive year.
Containers run nearly every workload today, ranging from microservices and batch data processing to fleets of AI agents. As these workloads grow in scale and complexity, the platform underneath must do so much more than scheduling. It has to absorb unpredictable, bursty demand, provide security and governance by default, and work just as well for a startup’s proof of concept as for an enterprise running thousands of clusters.
Our vision for AWS Containers is for this platform to disappear into the background, so teams adopt new compute, new accelerators, and new AI patterns the moment they need them, without re-architecting to get there. As their needs change, they can shift between container operating models on the same foundation, from serverless to fully managed Kubernetes with full control. We believe our recognition as a Leader reflects our progress toward that vision.

What this means for customers building with AWS
Here are a few of the innovations we’ve made and what they mean for you:
Ship faster, operate less. We built Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) Express Mode for teams who want to go from a container image to a running, production-ready service in a single step, with AWS configuring the service and traffic-based scaling behind it. We also launched Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) Capabilities to take the operational burden of platform tooling off customers’ plates, giving platform engineering teams managed Argo CD, AWS Controllers for Kubernetes (ACK), and Kube Resource Orchestrator (kro) to simplify GitOps, application delivery, and cloud resource management. It also offers developers consistent golden paths across accounts and Regions.
Run and scale AI without limits. The hardest AI and agentic workloads should run on the same platform customers already trust. To simplify this, we built Amazon EKS Auto Mode and Amazon ECS Managed Instances to let teams choose the accelerator that fits each workload, from the NVIDIA GPU family to AWS Trainium, while AWS provisions, patches, and manages the data plane, continually optimizing price performance. Once in production, keeping these workloads across clusters healthy at scale can be challenging. To simplify Day-2 operations, we built the AWS DevOps Agent which autonomously investigates and resolves incidents so teams can confidently adopt AI without additional operational overhead.
A resilient foundation, everywhere you operate. AWS runs some of the largest container fleets in the world. Customers launch billions of ECS tasks each week and operate millions of EKS clusters at scales that stress every layer of the control and data plane. Sustaining that throughput demands a robust foundation engineered for it. Amazon EKS now offers an industry-leading 99.99% availability SLA on its Provisioned Control Plane, letting teams pre-provision control plane capacity across scaling tiers to match each workload’s demands, so they get the flexibility to right-size for their applications on top of a resilient foundation. That same resilient foundation reaches beyond the cloud, with Amazon EKS Hybrid Nodes and Amazon ECS Anywhere bringing on-premises and edge infrastructure under one managed control plane, so teams operate consistently wherever their workloads live.
Where we’re headed next
Gartner says “the container management landscape is maturing rapidly as enterprises prioritize AI and complex application architectures.” We see the same shift, and we see containers becoming the default substrate for how AI agents are built, secured, and run. That is where we are investing: abstracting away the operational weight, keeping the choice of operating model open, and holding a resilient foundation under it all, from cloud to edge.
