AWS Educate, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Startups, launched a new AWS Startups Badge for aspiring entrepreneurs to learn how to turn a startup idea into reality through the cloud. The AWS Startups Badge offers AWS Educate members real-world application and use cases to help students jumpstart and scale their deployment efforts.

On September 15, Amazon Web Services (AWS) held its third annual AWS Summit in Bahrain – the first summit since the new Middle East AWS region launched in August. More than 1600 executives and technologists attended to connect, collaborate, and learn about AWS in more than 20 breakout sessions on topics ranging from machine learning, to databases, to workforce development. Daniela Blanco, Ph.D. student in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at NYU Tandon and founder of her own business, Sunthetics, won the title of Global Champion and $75,000 worth of AWS Promotional Credits at the 2019 Entrepeneurs’ Organization (EO) Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA).

Innovate Peru, an agency of the Ministry of Production in Peru, is collaborating with Amazon Web Services (AWS) CloudStart program to develop solutions to promote the growth of the startups and local businesses. Innovate Peru has helped more than 250 businesses in Peru grow since it began its Startup Peru competition in 2014. Startup Peru is a program that encourages innovation and diversifies the country’s economy that invests over S/5 million annually into startups through competitions held twice each year.

According to the World Wildlife Fund, approximately three billion people in the world rely on both wild-caught and farmed seafood as their primary source of protein; yet the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization estimates that eighty-five percent of marine fish stocks are either fully exploited or overfished. To combat this, the annual Fishackathon, first organized by the U.S. Secretary of State’s Office of Global Partnerships in 2014 and organized this year in partnership with HackerNest, took place in over 40 cities around the globe.
