In this post, the first in a two-part series, we focus on the detection and forensic readiness side of satellite IR. This post walks through instrumenting your ground segment with Amazon Web Services (AWS) security services and AWS Ground Station so that threats surface before they cause damage, and forensic data is already flowing when an incident occurs.

This blog covers what to do when those detections fire. Satellite incident response (IR) must account for constraints that ground-based systems never face: containment actions that wait for the next orbital pass, decisions that trade mission continuity against security, and recovery procedures where the compromised endpoint cannot be physically accessed. It walks through containment, eradication, recovery, automated runbooks, and tabletop exercises designed for satellite operations teams.

Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced the establishment of the first AWS Joint Innovation Center (JIC) in Hong Kong at last fall’s AWS Startup Day. The company’s services are available in Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, and Indonesia, where it provides over 30 million lab results for patients across these clinics. BioMark enables medical professionals to access lab results quickly and efficiently, allowing for faster and more accurate diagnosis and treatment. They use AWS to build their digital solutions.

AWS announced the 13 startups selected to participate in the AWS European Defence Accelerator. The startups offer solutions to help the European Defence industry enhance its energy resilience, secure information sharing, sensing and decision making, quantum, and cyber resilience for mission-critical needs for land, air, maritime, space, and cyber domains. Applications were invited from startups around the globe who are interested in doing business with defence and national security organizations across Europe.

To help government technology (GovTech) startups build solutions that enable government agencies to better serve their communities, AWS is launching its first AWS GovTech Accelerator. This inaugural program is now accepting applications from startups interested in leveraging cloud-based resources to accelerate innovation. AWS wants to help startups develop solutions that address the needs of government agencies, with the first cohort focused on justice and public safety organizations including courts, corrections, emergency services, and law enforcement. Applications open today and close Monday, July 10, 2023.

AWS announced the 2023 cohort of the Halcyon Climate Resilience in Latin America and the Caribbean Fellowship. AWS is sponsoring this fellowship with Halcyon, a Washington, DC-based nonprofit supporting impact-driven startups, to accelerate solutions that address the compounding effects of climate change. The focus of this fellowship is to help 10 innovative startups address the intersection of climate change and social determinants of health to provide more equitable health and life outcomes.
