AWS launches 2023 European Defence Accelerator for startups
To support defence and national security customers, AWS is launching the AWS European Defence Accelerator. The AWS European Defence Accelerator’s goal is to support startups with AWS Cloud technologies to provide energy resilience, secure information sharing, sensing and decision making, quantum, and cyber resilience solutions to support a range of customer mission needs. AWS announces AWS Modular Data Center for U.S. Department of Defense Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability
AWS announced AWS Modular Data Center. This new service provides U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) customers with the ability to deploy compute and storage capabilities to support large-scale workloads wherever they need it, including in Disconnected, Disrupted, Intermittent, or Limited (DDIL) environments. Instead of relying on limited data center infrastructure or building from the ground up, this offering delivers a cost-effective, self-contained modular data center solution that supports customers’ data center scale workloads.
Open for registration: Cloud Audit Academy for Federal and DoD Workloads in AWS
AWS announced the launch of the Cloud Audit Academy (CAA) for Federal and DoD Workloads (FDW) in AWS. This is a two-day accelerated training course to educate customers on how to leverage AWS services to assist with US Federal and Department of Defense (DoD) security and compliance requirements. This training course also qualifies for 12 hours of continuing professional education (CPE). Register at no cost today.
AWS selected for U.S. Department of Defense Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability contract
In 2021, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) announced the creation of the Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability (JWCC) contract—a multi-vendor acquisition vehicle designed to make cloud services and capabilities available at all classiﬁcation levels and across all security domains, from the enterprise to the tactical edge. JWCC will enable the DoD to fully leverage the capabilities of the cloud to meet current and future mission initiatives. Further, JWCC is key to enabling critical warfighter capabilities, such as the Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2), and the DoD Artificial Intelligence and Data Acceleration Initiative (ADA). As the DoD continues to modernize the way it supports the warfighter and defends our national security, AWS is committed to supporting its critical mission.

AWS and Project Kuiper to support the US military’s Hybrid Space Architecture project
Whether on land, in air, or at sea, having connectivity and access to information in the field is critical for the US Department of Defense (DoD). Satellite communications systems provide the DoD with critical capabilities—from delivering satellite imagery to enabling communications—that support military users operating around the globe. Enabling secure mission success with Wickr RAM in Department of Defense Cloud One
AWS announced the availability of Wickr RAM (Recall, Alert and Messaging) to the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) through Cloud One, which is a cloud hosting infrastructure and service. Wickr RAM is an end-to-end encrypted full suite collaboration application built for the warfighter. It is available on AWS GovCloud (US) and can support workloads up to Impact Level 5.
How to implement CNAP for federal and defense customers in AWS
In July 2021, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) released a cloud native access point (CNAP) reference design that follows zero trust architecture (ZTA) principles and provides a new approach to access mission owner (MO) applications. The DoD’s reference design discusses four core capabilities of CNAP: authenticated and authorized entities (C1), authorized ingress (C2), authorized egress (C3), and security monitoring and compliance enforcement (C4). In this blog post, we walk through how to establish the C2 component via a virtual internet access point (vIAP) with AWS. The proposed architectures can reduce operational cost and management overhead, while improving the accessibility, resiliency, and security of mission owner applications.
