The 83% problem: Why clinical trials fail the Global South and how we can close the equity gap
Approximately 83% of clinical trial sites concentrate in just 25 high-income countries, leaving the Global South largely excluded from the evidence base that shapes global medicine. At the World Health Summit 2026 in Berlin, AWS convened leaders from Hospital Sírio-Libanês, PATH, BIO Ventures for Global Health, Konvergenz Network Solutions, and the European Medicines Agency to examine why and chart a path forward. The frameworks and tools exist; what’s needed now is institutional commitment and collaborative action.
