Amazon EC2 R6a instances are powered by 3rd generation AMD EPYC processors and deliver up to 35% better price performance compared to R5a instances and 10% lower cost than comparable x86-based Amazon EC2 instances. R6a instances feature an 8:1 ratio of memory to vCPU, just like R5a instances, and support increased sizes up to 192 vCPUs per instance. These instances are SAP-Certified and are an ideal fit for memory-intensive workloads, such as SQL and NoSQL databases; distributed web scale in-memory caches, such as Memcached and Redis; in-memory databases and real-time big data analytics, such as Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark clusters; and other enterprise applications.

Flexibility and choice
R6a instances add to the broadest and deepest selection of EC2 instances in the cloud and provide customers 11 instance sizes that feature varying amounts of vCPU, memory, networking, and storage. This lets you run a broad range of memory-intensive workloads.
Maximized resource efficiency
R6a instances are built on the AWS Nitro System, a combination of dedicated hardware and lightweight hypervisor, which delivers practically all of the compute and memory resources of the host hardware to your instances for better overall performance and security.

Powered by 3rd generation AMD EPYC processors
Amazon EC2 R6a instances are powered by 3rd generation AMD EPYC processors (code named Milan) with an all-core turbo frequency of 3.6 GHz and include support for AMD Transparent Secure Memory Encryption (TSME), which encrypts data in physical memory. R6a instances support the new Advanced Vector Extension (AVX-2) instructions to run cryptographic algorithms faster. They also support AMD SEV-SNP. High performance
R6a instances support 40 Gbps bandwidth to Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) in the largest size, which is more than double that of R5a instances. R6a instances also support up to 50 Gbps networking, which is 2.5 times that of R5a instances. You can also enable Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) on the 48xlarge size of R6a.
Built on AWS Nitro System
The AWS Nitro System is a rich collection of building blocks that offloads many of the traditional virtualization functions to dedicated hardware and software to deliver high performance, high availability, and high security while also reducing virtualization overhead.
