Amazon WorkSpaces for Education

Increasing access for classroom and distance learners

Simplifying Access to Learning Resources with Amazon WorkSpaces

Amazon WorkSpaces is cloud-based, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution that helps higher education institutions and K12 school districts give students and instructors consistent access to teaching and learning software on their own device.  Watch the video to see how it works.

How Amazon WorkSpaces Helps Education

For Students and Instructors

Amazon WorkSpaces simplifies access to educational resources by giving students a desktop ready for their learning needs. Their applications are available using an internet connection from any location, regardless of hardware or device. Instructors and teachers can use the tools and software that work for their classroom. WorkSpaces can be used for any type of curriculum, from CAD and engineering at the college level to graphics, Pivot tables, and administrative apps in K12 classrooms. Educators can gain insight into usage by understanding aggregated student usage patterns and engagement levels, helping to identify areas where students need assistance.

For Administration

Amazon WorkSpaces provides an equitable learning experience for classroom and distance learners, and gives teachers, instructors, staff, and consultants access to the computer resources they need while complying with an organization’s security policies. WorkSpaces helps reduce costs associated with computer labs and dedicated hardware for instructors, staff, and students. With a flexible pricing model that accommodates peak usage periods, organizations can save as much as 50 percent over a traditional VDI solution running on premise.

For Technologists

Reduce the costs and time associated with procuring and managing hardware resources for students, instructors, and staff using WorkSpaces. Users can access their WorkSpaces with Windows and Mac computers, Chromebooks, iPads, Fire tablets, Android tablets, and Chrome and Firefox web browsers. WorkSpaces integrates with Active Directory for single-sign on to university and district resources. Organizations can select teaching and learning applications, and quickly and securely deploy and upgrade software.

Pricing

With Amazon WorkSpaces, institutions and districts pay only for what they use and there is no upfront infrastructure purchase commitment. This helps save money compared to on-premises VDI solutions. Institutions and districts can purchase WorkSpaces through pooled models, share licenses across devices, and scale the number of desktops up or down with no penalty. Qualifying Education Users are eligible for license discounts from Microsoft. Visit the WorkSpaces pricing page to learn more and confirm eligibility.

We can rethink how we teach with Amazon WorkSpaces. We can offer more to students – more interesting class content and more interactivity – without adding complexity for instructors. The sky is the limit.

A majority of our students use Macs, but many business school applications require Windows. Amazon WorkSpaces eliminates the technical complexity for students and we can give them access to their applications in just seconds. Students have a unified learning experience.
