AWS Deadline Cloud features

AWS Deadline Cloud makes it easy for creative teams to build a cloud-based render farm in minutes that scales from zero to thousands of compute instances for peak demand without needing to manage infrastructure. You can use the Deadline Cloud native scheduler with Amazon EC2 Spot and On-Demand Instances across CPU instance families for rendering, without the need for on-premises render compute or infrastructure management. With Deadline Cloud, you pay only for the compute you consume for rendering and can track your rendering costs on a project-by-project basis.

Deadline Cloud includes built-in integrations with popular digital content creation (DCC) tools for design, modeling, animation, visual effects, compositing, finishing, and rendering. Examples of supported DCCs—provided with Deadline Cloud installers or deployed through customer packages—include Adobe After Effects, Autodesk Arnold, Autodesk Maya, Blender, Chaos V-Ray, Foundry Nuke, Luxion KeyShot, SideFX Houdini, and Unreal Engine.

With a comprehensive set of customization tools, Deadline Cloud helps you reduce the effort and development time required to tailor your rendering pipeline to the needs of each job. Build new pipeline integrations when you need them, or create custom applications powered by Deadline Cloud—even develop your own render service.

With Deadline Cloud, you can integrate with your preferred software using an open standard for render job submissions called Open Job Description (OpenJD). OpenJD is an extendable framework for studios, TDs, or developers to build DCC job submitters that describe all the requirements and options for a specified render job—compatible with multiple job schedulers, not just Deadline Cloud. OpenJD enables you to freely integrate Deadline Cloud with your current tools, custom submitters, and schedulers.

Deadline Cloud provides a dashboard and step-by-step setup wizard that you can use to create a cloud-based render farm. After setting up your studio, render farm, and integrations, you can install plugin packages that add tooling and UI elements to provide a smooth user experience. Your artists use the plugin UIs in their favorite software applications to define job parameters such as the frame range, render layers, and other application and render software options.

With Deadline Cloud, you can scale thousands of compute instances up and down, minute to minute, so that you can render complex assets, accelerate production timelines, take on new projects, and better meet challenging turnaround times. Then scale down when you’re done.

Built-in cost management capabilities, including budget setting and usage tracking on a project-by-project basis, give you the ability to manage rendering costs and keep budgets on track. With Usage-Based Licensing (UBL) and pay-as-you-go pricing, you pay only for the resources you consume.

With Deadline Cloud, you can quickly spin up UBL for your favorite digital content creation tools and render engines. You don’t have to purchase licenses in advance of usage that your artists might never use. With UBL, you can move to a straight consumption model, removing the need to predict consumption in advance and saving money on unnecessary licensing.

Deadline Cloud can provide scheduling for compute resources managed by you, known as Customer-Managed Fleets, including your own Amazon EC2 reservations or even on-premises render workers. You can connect your own resources to shared storage in AWS, such as Amazon FSx, or in your own data center. You can even sync to and from the cloud through a job attachment system.
