Jira products on AWS

Jira Software Data Center and Jira Service Desk Data Center with high availability and performance

Use this Quick Start to deploy one of the following Jira products from Atlassian on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud:

  • Jira Software Data Center is a software development tool used by agile teams.
  • Jira Service Desk Data Center provides IT service management software with high availability and performance at scale.

This Quick Start uses the Atlassian Standard Infrastructure (ASI) as a foundation. You can also deploy Bitbucket Data Center and Confluence Data Center within the same ASI.

  •  What you'll build
  • Use this Quick Start to set up the following Jira environment on AWS:

    • A virtual private cloud (VPC) configured with public and private subnets. This provides the network infrastructure for your Jira deployment.*
    • In the public subnets:
      • Managed network address translation (NAT) gateways to allow outbound internet access for resources in the private subnets.*
      • A Linux bastion host to allow secure access to your Jira applications.*
    • In the private subnets:
      • A Jira cluster with instances based on Amazon Linux.
      • Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) PostgreSQL as the external database for Jira. You can choose Amazon AuroraPostgreSQL instead.
    • Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) as the shared file system for storage.

    * If you're deploying Jira into an existing Atlassian Standard Infrastructure (ASI), the Quick Start detects the components marked by asterisks, and provisions Jira into your existing ASI.

  •  How to deploy
  • Build your Jira cluster in a few simple steps:

    1. If you don't already have an AWS account, sign up at https://aws.amazon.com.
    2. Launch the Quick Start. You can choose to build a new Atlassian Standard Infrastructure (ASI) for your deployment or deploy Jira into your existing ASI:
    3. Configure the Jira product for multiple nodes.
    4. Add nodes to the cluster.

To customize your deployment, you can choose different instance types for your resources, configure your cluster nodes, and adjust file server and database settings.

  •  Cost and licenses
  • You are responsible for the cost of the AWS services used while running this Quick Start reference deployment. There is no additional cost for using the Quick Start.

The AWS CloudFormation template for this Quick Start includes configuration parameters that you can customize. Some of these settings, such as instance type, will affect the cost of deployment. See the pricing pages for each AWS service you will be using for cost estimates. Prices are subject to change.

Tip   After you deploy the Quick Start, we recommend that you enable the AWS Cost and Usage Report to track costs associated with the Quick Start. This report delivers billing metrics to an S3 bucket in your account. It provides cost estimates based on usage throughout each month, and finalizes the data at the end of the month. For more information about the report, see the AWS documentation.

This Quick Start requires a license for either Jira Software Data Center or Jira Service Desk Data Center. For information about obtaining a license, see the Atlassian pricing page. The Quick Start can't be used with Jira Software or Jira Service Desk Server licenses.

If you want to evaluate either Jira Software Data Center or Jira Service Desk Data Center, you can also request an evaluation license after you deploy the Quick Start, during application configuration.
