Deploy JIRA on AWS into a new VPC

To install JIRA products on AWS and instantly scale, view the Quick Start deployment guide. You might also want to check out the AWS Quick Start for Bitbucket Data Center and the AWS Quick Start for Confluence Data Center, and view our complete Quick Start catalog.

Use this Quick Start to deploy one of the following JIRA products from Atlassian on the AWS Cloud in less than 30 minutes:

- JIRA Software Data Center is a software development tool used by agile teams.

- JIRA Service Desk Data Center provides IT service management software with high availability and performance at scale.

The Quick Start includes AWS CloudFormation templates that automatically deploy these JIRA products into a highly available, secure AWS Cloud environment. The Quick Start also includes a guide with step-by-step deployment and configuration instructions and best practices to help you get the most out of your JIRA applications on the AWS Cloud.

  • What you'll build

Use this Quick Start to set up the following JIRA environment on AWS:

    • A virtual private cloud (VPC) configured with public and private subnets. This provides the network infrastructure for your JIRA deployment.*
    • An Internet gateway to provide access to the Internet.*
    • In the public subnets, managed network address translation (NAT) gateways to allow outbound Internet access for resources in the private subnets. The Quick Start deploys NAT instances in regions where NAT gateways aren't available.*
    • In the private subnets, Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) PostgreSQL as the external database for JIRA.
    • In the private subnets, an Auto Scaling group with JIRA instances based on Amazon Linux.
    • Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) as the shared file system for storage.
    • Your choice to create a new VPC or deploy into your existing VPC on AWS. The template that deploys the Quick Start into an existing VPC skips the components marked by asterisks above.

For details, see the Quick Start deployment guide.

  • Deployment details

Build your JIRA Software Data Center cluster in a few simple steps:

    1. Sign up for an AWS account.
    2. Get a license key for the JIRA product you want to deploy.
    3. Launch the Quick Start into a new VPC, if you want to build a new AWS infrastructure. (View template)
Launch the Quick Start into an existing VPC, if you already have your AWS environment set up. (View template)
The deployment takes about 30 minutes.
    4. Configure the JIRA product for multiple nodes.
    5. Add nodes to the cluster.

To customize your deployment, you can choose different instance types for your resources, configure your cluster nodes, and adjust file server and database settings.

For detailed instructions, see the Quick Start deployment guide.

  • Cost and licenses

You are responsible for the cost of the AWS services used while running this Quick Start reference deployment. There is no additional cost for using the Quick Start.

The AWS CloudFormation template for this Quick Start includes configuration parameters that you can customize. Some of these settings, such as instance type, storage size, and IOPS, will affect the cost of deployment. See the pricing pages for each AWS service you will be using or the AWS Simple Monthly Calculator for cost estimates.

The Quick Start requires an Atlassian account and a Data Center license to use the JIRA Data Center applications you’re planning to deploy on AWS.
