Starting today, Amazon Pinpoint users can use the Phone Number Validate feature to improve the delivery rates of SMS messages they send using Amazon Pinpoint. Phone Number Validate corrects errors that often occur when end users enter their phone numbers on web-based forms. For example, if end users omit their country codes, or if they include an unnecessary leading digit (required for domestic calls in some countries), Phone Number Validate will automatically correct the phone number by applying country-specific formatting rules.
Phone Number Validate also provides important metadata about end users' phone numbers. For example, it can determine if a phone number is associated with a mobile, landline, or VoIP account. Amazon Pinpoint customers can use this information to ensure that they use the right channel to deliver messages to their users. For example, if a number is associated with a mobile device, the customer can send information as an SMS text message, but if the number is associated with a VoIP or landline account, the customer can call the user and deliver the message by using text-to-speech technology. Amazon Pinpoint Phone Number Validate is available today as a public preview in the US East (N. Virginia) region. To learn more about Phone Number Validate, see the AWS Messaging and Targeting blog.
